"Her body relaxed, and the pain of her wounds eased. The dark water no longer horrified her, it felt warm and soothing, engulfing her like an embrace. It's time to rest. […] The cold that gripped her seemed at last to let her go. She closed her eyes and in her last moment felt only warmth. Only love." |

Chapter description[]
- Bristlefrost fights against a tabby rogue spirit, having shoved him away from rolling Shadowsight into the dark water. She takes a spare moment to glance over at Shadowsight, but the ShadowClan medicine cat struggles to regain his footing as Ashfur draws near. The dark warrior begins to drag Shadowsight towards the dark water, intending to kill him. Bristlefrost, in her desperation to save her friend, kills the rogue spirit and rushes towards Shadowsight. She dodges Antfur and two Dark Forest spirits before Thistleclaw and Mapleshade pin her down. Violetshine and Rootspring rescue her, and she and Rootspring lock gazes for a few heartbeats. Bristlefrost realizes that she has so much to say to him, but both cats notice Ashfur standing over Shadowsight's body near the dark water's edge. Bristlefrost recalls how Ashfur had manipulated her into hurting so many cats and she knew him probably better than Shadowsight. Ashfur must be stopped...and Bristlefrost realizes what she must do.
- She spares another glace at Rootspring before rushing towards Ashfur despite Rootspring's calls to wait. Bristlefrost crashes into Ashfur, shoving them both into the dark water. The water's coldness shocks her, and she notices Ashfur besides her struggling to reach the surface. Bristlefrost shoves him downward into the depths and he disappears, drowning in the darkness. Bristlefrost feels satisfaction that the dark warrior's reign of terror has ended at last, but notices that she is too far from the surface now. The water feels warm and soothing now, and Bristlefrost is tempted to rest when she notices Violetshine and Rootspring peering down at her from the distance. Bristlefrost grieves for Rootspring now that he has to live without her, and dreams of them together and raising a family, including three kits. As Bristlefrost drifts off, she is surrounded by warmth and love.
