"I'm going to StarClan. It isn't sad. I've lost so many cats I loved, and now I can be with them again. [..] I've been lucky to have [ThunderClan]. Tell them that I wouldn't want to have belonged to any other Clan and that I'll miss them. Say goodbye to my kits for me, and tell them I'll be waiting in StarClan after they have long, happy lives." |

Chapter description[]
- Shadowsight helps push Graystripe through the Moonpool alongside Rootspring and Mistystar. The ShadowClan medicine cat enters his own body, enduring a jaw-clenching pain as he feels the reality of his injuries. He spots Rootspring looking at where Bristlefrost had lain, realizing that she was not dead, but gone. Shadowsight sees his own parents, Tree and Needleclaw, Breezepelt, and Lightleap. Ivypool's eyes narrow as she questions where Bristlefrost is, while Bramblestar quickly comes to Graystripe's aid, asking Mistystar if Ashfur is gone. Nodding, the RiverClan leader states that the Clans had won the battle, so Bramblestar wonders if any cat was lost. Ivypool agrees, fervently worrying about Bristlefrost's location as her body had disappeared. Rootspring, unable to answer, just stares at the silver tabby, so Mistystar replies that Bristlefrost died heroicly, recounting how she went with Ashfur into the dark water.
- Mothwing calls to the Sisters, asking for them to catch cobwebs. The burly she-cats hustle away while Dovewing fusses over Shadowsight's wounds. Tigerstar and Lightleap welcome the ShadowClan medicine cat while Breezepelt checks up on Crowfeather. A few moments pass as Ivypool mutters that they can't even bury her. Rootspring pads up to her, stating that if there was any chance she wasn't gone, he wouldn't have returned, explaining that she died killing Ashfur. He adds that she gave it all for her Clan, as she had done when in the living world. Shadowsight's throat becomes dry as he excuses himself from his kin, citing that he has to help Mothwing. Flurry hurriedly approaches Mothwing, handing the elder ShadowClan medicine cat the cobwebs as Shadowsight asks if Graystripe will live. The elder's eyes open as Squirrelflight assures him that he will live through the pain. The wise gray tom replies that he has gone through so much with ThunderClan, and now he can reunite with so many loved ones that he has lost. Bramblestar adds that ThunderClan has been very lucky to have the old tom, but Graystripe purrs, stating that he has been lucky to have ThunderClan. The gray elder asks for the ThunderClan cats to tell his kits to enjoy their lives and that he will be waiting for them in StarClan. Turning to Squirrelflight, he tells the ThunderClan deputy that Ashfur carried her message to his death.
- Shadowsight nods, stating that Bristlefrost made sure that Ashfur is gone forever, and now that the Clans can contact StarClan, the medicine cats should meet at the Moonpool the next day. Mothwing nods, focused on her work as Graystripe weakly pushes her away, asking for the ShadowClan medicine cat to let him go peacefully to StarClan. His paws on the powerful gray tom, Shadowsight notices that a sudden stillness had occured as Mothwing announces that he is gone. Bramblestar and Squirrelflight yowl in grief as the stones in the hollow vibrate.
