"Would you sacrifice our own kits and elders to save theirs? If we don't attack now, ThunderClan will be destroyed. Is it not worth risking a few WindClan lives to save all of ours?"
— Adderfang to Pinestar in Bluestar's Prophecy, page 113

Adderfang is a mottled,[2] dark[8] brown tabby tom with yellow eyes.[2] He has massive shoulders[9] and a broad head.[10]

Adderfang served ThunderClan as elder after his tenure as a warrior under the leaderships of both Pinestar and Sunstar in the forest territories. Adderpaw was mentored by Harepounce during his apprenticeship. After earning his warrior name, Adderfang became mates with Swiftbreeze, fathering two litters of kits. The first litter included Leopardkit and Patchkit, while the second included Redkit, Spottedkit, and Willowkit. He mentored Thistlepaw, and temporarily served as deputy when Tawnyspots fell ill, until Bluefur succeeded him. Adderfang continued serving his Clan until retiring as an elder. Following his ascension to StarClan, he participated in the Great Battle against the Dark Forest.

History[]

In the Omen of the Stars arc[]

The Last Hope[]

As Jayfeather unites StarClan and leads them across a ravine in the territory, he notices Adderfang alongside Tawnyspots, Frostfur, and Swiftbreeze.

In the Super Editions[]

Crookedstar's Promise[]

Hollyflower: "You're still smarting after being beaten by a medicine cat."
Adderfang: "He wasn't a medicine cat then."
—Adderfang and Hollyflower talking about his defeat at Mudfur's paws Crookedstar's Promise, page 398
During a Gathering, Adderfang proudly declares ThunderClan has a strong batch of apprentices that year. As the Gathering progresses, Oakheart interjects, claiming ThunderClan has always been friendly with kittypets. Adderfang whirls around, his eyes blazing as he demands to know who Oakheart is accusing of being friends with kittypets.
Adderfang participates in the ThunderClan patrol that confronts RiverClan attempting to reclaim Sunningrocks. Before a fight breaks out, Mudfur intervenes, suggesting a one-on-one duel between himself and Adderfang to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. Eventually, Mudfur overpowers Adderfang, pinning him down like a trout, leading to Adderfang's surrender. He is then escorted back to ThunderClan by his Clanmates.
After Crookedjaw is appointed RiverClan's deputy, Adderfang hisses at him, questioning why Hailstar chose him. He argues that Crookedjaw isn't prepared to lead his Clan into battle. When Fallowtail mentions Crookedjaw's reputation as RiverClan's strongest warrior, Adderfang slides from the crowd, implying that Crookedjaw has never fought in a real battle. Hollyflower gently rebuffs Adderfang's attitude, recalling his loss to a medicine cat. Adderfang scowls, defending himself by insisting he was not a medicine cat at the time, shooting an angry glance at Mudfur.

Leopardstar's Honor[]

Crookedjaw brings up Mudfur's involvement in the Sunningrocks conflict against Adderfang, and Voleclaw chimes in, affirming Mudfur's victory.

Bluestar's Prophecy[]

Adderfang: "Stay with me. You nearly fought with a ShadowClan apprentice last time."
Thistlepaw: "You always tell me only cowards turn away from a fight."
Adderfang: "I didn't say you shouldn't have fought him. Just not at a Gathering. You're too impulsive."
—Adderfang and Thistlepaw before a Gathering Bluestar's Prophecy, pages 154-155
Adderfang, a senior warrior of ThunderClan, proudly watches over his and Swiftbreeze's kits, Leopardkit and Patchkit. Bluekit observes Adderfang nurturing interaction with them, longing for a similar connection to her own father, Stormtail. When Bluekit and Snowkit seek Goosefeather's interpretation of the clouds as a prophecy, Adderfang walks by, cynically questions the existence of yet another prophecy. Surprised by his skepticism, Bluekit wonders if Adderfang believes in prophecies at all. Goosefeather suggests the prophecy could involve them, and Adderfang dismissively snorts before padding away.
Before Leopardkit and Patchkit's apprentice ceremonies, Adderfang sits proudly beside Swiftbreeze at the edge of the clearing as Pinestar begins the Clan meeting. Pinestar acknowledges Adderfang's influence on Patchkit, noting the courage shining in the young cat's eyes.
Adderfang asserts his views strongly on ThunderClan's strategy against WindClan, with his resolve bolstered by Goosefeather's omen from StarClan, earning support from Stormtail. When Pinestar talks to Bluepaw about battle tactics, he glances at Adderfang, remarking that only mouse-brains run into battle without fear.
Later, Adderfang receives Thistlepaw as his apprentice. During a hunting patrol led by Bluefur, he gives her a questioning look when she issues orders. He later reprimands Thistlepaw for yowling and alerting the prey, assigning him to guard the catch. Adderfang and Swiftbreeze welcome another litter of kits, Redkit, Willowkit, and Spottedkit. When ThunderClan's deputy, Tawnyspots, falls ill, Adderfang temporarily assumes his duties. Despite expectations for Adderfang or Stormtail to succeed Tawnyspots, Sunstar chooses Bluefur instead. After Bluefur suffers the loss of her kits, Adderfang gently invites her to join a hunting patrol with them.

Onestar's Confession[]

Adderfang is now an elder alongside his mate, Swiftbreeze.

In the Novellas[]

Goosefeather's Curse[]

Adderpaw trails behind his mentor, Harepounce, on a hunting patrol, delivering their catch to the fresh-kill pile. He flicks his tail and offers a mouse he caught to Goosekit, proud of his success. Goosekit hesitantly sniffs at it but winces, preferring his mother's milk. Disappointed, Adderpaw questions if Goosekit does not want it. When Goosekit tries to take the mouse but is shoved by a cat, Adderpaw calls to Nettlebreeze to watch out, pointing out there was plenty of food for everyone. Nettlebreeze, distracted by Goosekit, asks if Adderpaw said something. Later, Windflight expresses his desire to train Swiftpaw in to battle training alongside Harepounce and Adderpaw.
During his warrior ceremony along with Stormtail and Swiftbreeze, Adderpaw is named Adderfang, and the Clan celebrates their new names. As ThunderClan begins burying prey to preserve it, Adderfang stumbles past Goosefeather, burying a squirrel in one of the holes.

Spottedleaf's Heart[]

Spottedkit recalls her father dismissing her as too small to learn anything yet. Later, Tawnyspots assigns Thrushpelt and Spottedpaw to join Adderfang's hunting patrol alongside Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw. Thrushpelt follows behind Adderfang as they set out. During the patrol, Adderfang catches the scent of prey and dashes towards Sunningrocks. Spottedpaw tumbles from a tree, and Adderfang rushes to her side, visibly concerned, asking where she's hurt. With Adderfang supporting her, the patrol helps Spottedpaw back to camp, Adderfang bearing most of her weight on her uninjured side. Upon their return, Adderfang informs Swiftbreeze that Thistleclaw instructed Spottedpaw to climb the tree after a squirrel. Adderfang then takes over carrying Spottedpaw from Swiftbreeze. Thrushpelt expresses that he will join Adderfang on another patrol and swiftly joins the warrior as they disappear through the gorse tunnel. Thistleclaw inquires about Thrushpelt's whereabouts, and Spottedpaw informs him that he is with Adderfang's patrol.

Redtail's Debt[]

Redpaw watches as Adderfang vanishes through the gorse tunnel with Sunstar's patrol, heading to fight RiverClan. As Redtail and Willowpelt earn their warrior names, Redtail hears his father's voice cheering their names the loudest.
