"Why can't all the cats just be friends? Just because we live in different places doesn't mean we have to fight."
— Alder protesting to Clear Sky about ambushing Birch in The First Battle, page 46

Alder is a lithe,[5] splotchy[7] gray, brown, and white she-cat[8] with short, fluffy fur.[9]

Alder served as an ancient SkyClan warrior under Skystar's leadership in the forest territories. She was born alongside her brother Birch to Misty, but tragically, their mother was killed by Clear Sky. He decided to bring the kits to his camp, where they were adopted and raised by Petal. Alder fell ill with a mysterious sickness but was swiftly healed by the Blazing Star, albeit losing Petal in the process. Despite the loss, she persevered, continuing to assist with camp duties, serving as a prime example of a loyal non-Clanborn cat.

Dawn of the Clans[]

Alder and her brother Birch are Misty's kits. Their mother meets her demise at the claws of Clear Sky after refusing to leave the territory. Despite Clear Sky's initial contemplation of killing them, Petal steps in to adopt the kits instead. As they mature, Clear Sky commences their training, though Alder is unable to comprehend why the camp cats cannot just coexist peacefully instead of resorting to conflict.
When prey becomes scarce and an enigmatic illness afflicts several cats, Alder falls victim to the disease. She and her family are isolated from the others when One Eye usurps control of Clear Sky's camp. Unlike Petal, Alder and her brother survive the ordeal thanks to the Blazing Star. They continue to mature and contribute to camp responsibilities, even taking on the task of training newcomers like Clover, Thistle, and Milkweed.
Following Star Flower's abduction by Slash, Alder volunteers to go with Clear Sky to request assistance from other leaders, recalling his act of kindness in taking them in after Misty's death. During a Gathering addressing the recent influx of rogues joining various camps, Clear Sky singles out Alder as one of his own, highlighting her loyalty on par with any born within the camp.
