History

In the Novellas

Mapleshade's Vengeance

Mapleshade watches as Appledusk trains his apprentice, Perchpaw. Reedshine, Appledusk's RiverClan mate, arrives and offers to pounce to show how it is done. Appledusk mews that she should not doing be anything too dangerous and reminds her to think of their kits. Reedshine looks at her belly that is barely swollen from her unborn kits and objects, saying that she is not sick. Appledusk meows that he knows, but their kits are too precious to risk Perchpaw injuring her by mistake. Mapleshade wonders how Reedshine could be expecting kits already.

Later on, after Mapleshade confronts Appledusk, Reedshine arrives wondering what is going on. Mapleshade hurls herself at her, screeching that she and her kits must die. Appledusk jumps in the way and takes the blow, protecting Reedshine and their unborn kits. Reedshine tells Mapleshade that Appledusk will live on in their kits, and in their kits, for generations to come. Mapleshade decides to watch over all their kin and punish each one for what Reedshine and Appledusk did. Later, she thinks that Appledusk's kin will mourn the day he destroyed her life.
