Applefur is a ShadowClan warrior under Nightstar's leadership. Applefur takes the opportunity to ask Tigerclaw why he left his Clan after he returns to the ShadowClan camp from a successful hunting patrol. The former ThunderClan cat studies her, noticing a look of curiosity in her eyes. Tigerclaw answers her after a moment of thought, telling her that she will hear enough rumors about him to come up with her own story. Applefur rests her cheek on the ground and tells Tigerclaw that is why she is asking him for the truth. Tigerclaw stands, telling Applefur that he cannot be loyal to a Clan that listens to a kittypet over its deputy. Tigerclaw also states that he still believes in the warrior code, even if his former Clanmates do not.

After the death of Nightstar, ShadowClan worries about their lack of a leader and deputy. Fernshade tells Rowanberry that the Gathering is just one night away, and asks if Runningnose had told her what he was going to tell the other Clans. Russetfur states that Runningnose would not need to tell the other Clans anything, as it is obvious that Nightstar has died and that ShadowClan is without a leader. Applefur adds that it will also be obvious that they do not have a deputy. She says that the other Clans will laugh ShadowClan out of Fourtrees. Tangleburr tells them to be patient, as there is still time for StarClan to send an answer to their prayers.

Mistakes

• It is very likely that Applefur is meant to be the same Applefur from Omen of the Stars arc, who shares the same description. However, that Applefur was a kit during the Great Journey and would not have been born for Tigerclaw's Fury. It is possible that the allegiances for Omen of the Stars was consulted while writing this book, as Cedarheart, who would have been an apprentice, is mistakenly shown as an elder and Ratscar, who first appeared in Eclipse, are featured in Tigerclaw's Fury. However, due to timeline inconsistencies, this character is listed as separate from Applefur in Omen of the Stars.

• On Vicky's Facebook, Applefur is a lighter brown compared to the other Applefur. They both have bright green eyes. She died during the battle against BloodClan and went to StarClan.
• In the Chinese full-color version of Into the Woods, Applefur, Snowbird, and Flintfang share prey with Sasha in ShadowClan's camp.
