History[]
In The Prophecies Begin arc[]
Into the Wild[]
- Ashfur: "We have come to help you, not to harm you. You have come for your kits; we will help you rescue them."
- Whitestorm: "What's in it for you?"
- Into the Wild, page 255
- Ashfur is a ShadowClan elder at the time of Brokenstar's leadership. Yellowfang asks him, along with the other ShadowClan elders, to help to save ThunderClan's kits. When they first meet the ThunderClan cats, Ashfur tells them that ShadowClan has come to help them, and that they would help rescue the kits. Whitestorm is doubtful, and asks what was in it for ShadowClan. Ashfur tells him that they wanted to get rid of Brokenstar, because he had turned from the warrior code and caused ShadowClan to suffer badly. Runningwind says it might not be easy, but Ashfur tells him that ShadowClan would not be able to resist them much. Yellowfang then interjects and introduces Ashfur the rest of the ThunderClan cats.
- Ashfur explains to the ThunderClan patrol that the old and sick in ShadowClan are slowly starving, and the casualties among the kits are more than they can cope with. Darkstripe wonders how ShadowClan can seem so strong. Ashfur explains that Brokenstar has surrounded himself with strong, fearsome warriors that would die for him without question. The other warriors obey him only because they are afraid of him and his followers, but they would not stay with him if he no longer had the advantage.
- Later, Graypaw asks if ShadowClan eats crowfood, and Ashfur explains that Brokenstar used the warriors for fighting, not hunting, and that they ate whatever they could find. Ashfur then helps Yellowfang investigate the attack, and begins wrestling with one of Brokenstar's warriors.
In the Stand-Alone Graphic Novels[]
Exile from ShadowClan[]
- "I—well...I questioned Brokenstar. I asked him, shouldn't we be concentrating on hunting for the Clan, now that leaf-bare has come? Instead of training for endless battles? He didn't get angry. Not that I could see. He just said that defenses against the other Clans was the most important thing for ShadowClan. But then...after the battle tonight, he—he thanked me for my long service as a warrior, and said...he said it was time for me to retire! Retire and go live with the elders."
- ―Ashfur about Brokenstar Exile from ShadowClan, page 55
- After Nightpelt catches Clawface stealing four ThunderClan kits, Nightpelt urges to his cats that they need to overthrow Brokenstar. Ashfur is in agreement but knows others will say it goes against the warrior code. Eventually, Ashfur and Dawncloud agree to fight with Nightpelt, and they meet up with Yellowfang and a ThunderClan patrol. They trick Blackfoot into letting them into camp by pretending Yellowfang is their prisoner. While Brokenstar confronts Yellowfang, Nightpelt motions to Ashfur where the kits' prison is. The battle begins when Yellowfang attacks Brokenstar and Ashfur participates in the fight, successfully driving out Brokenstar and his allies. Ashfur attends the Gathering where Nightpelt announces himself as ShadowClan's new leader.
