"I'm worried that they won't be able to take care of themselves if they rely on our housefolk all the time. I've seen housefolk abandon their kittypets, and the kittypets were quite helpless on their own. I don't want that for Leo and Melody. Being part of a Clan might be a better life for them. Surely we have something to offer WindClan that would make you want to help my kits become warriors?"
— Bailey to the WindClan patrol about her kits joining the Clan in Onestar's Confession, page 19

Bailey is a plump, sleek-furred brown tabby-and-white she-cat.[6]

Onestar's Confession[]

"I want my kits to learn how to be strong, and how to survive without the help of housefolk."
―Bailey to the WindClan cats Onestar's Confession, page 12
Bailey is a kittypet living in the nearby Twolegplace by WindClan's territory. She takes her two kits, Leo and Melody, to practice hunting so they can survive on their own without their housefolk. Mudclaw, Deadfoot, Wrenflight, and Onepaw counter them for trespassing and prepare to take them back to their Twolegplace. However, they are attacked by a badger, and Bailey participates in the fight. She bravely saves Onepaw and her kits and her courage is commended by the WindClan cats. Bailey asks to visit their camp to speak to their leader, hoping her kits can become apprentices so they can learn to survive on their own.
In WindClan's camp, several WindClan warriors mock the kittypets for wishing to join the Clan. However, Bailey pleads her case, insisting she can help in the nursery and the medicine cat den while her kits train to become warriors. Tallstar agrees, though insists the must be kept a secret from the other Clans. While Leo is excited to become a warrior, Melody is not as inclined, though both agree to become apprentices. Tallstar renames them to Brushpaw and Tansypaw, assigning Mudclaw and Wrenflight to be their mentors respectively.
Two moons later, Bailey assists Sorrelshine after she has given birth to her kits in the nursery when Tansypaw barges in complaining about Wrenflight and the punishment she has been tasked with. Bailey insists her daughter should listen to Wrenflight since she is her mentor, though Tansypaw is not very happy about that. When Onepaw, Morningpaw, Brushpaw, and Tansypaw decide to explore the Twolegplace, Bailey worriedly meets them at the edge of camp. Tallstar is inclined to believe it was a mistake allowing the kittypets to join the Clan, but he allows them to stay after Onepaw vouches for them. After the meeting, Bailey scolds her kits for almost ruining their opportunity to train as warriors. After the apprentices fail their warrior assessments, Bailey looks on in devastation. Tansypaw decides to leave to return to her Twolegs, much to Bailey's disappointment. Brushpaw is allowed a second chance to become a warrior after he implores Tallstar that he will do better next time. Bailey asks to remain in WindClan for the time being, insisting her daughter will be fine with their Twolegs.
When Stagleap's patrol arrives with urgent news of ShadowClan trespassing, Bailey pokes her head out of Barkface's den anxiously. When Brushpaw is heavily injured following a skirmish against ShadowClan, Bailey is shocked at her son's condition. Barkface orders her to fetch cobwebs and marigold and later sits down by her son's side. Brushpaw dies a half-moon later from his injuries. Bailey leaves the Clan after Brushpaw's vigil and Onewhisker walks with her. While Onewhisker offers his comforts, Bailey believes it was her own fault that Brushpaw died since she was the one who brought her kits to WindClan. Smoke greets them at the Twolegplace and informs Bailey that Melody is inside her Twoleg nest. Several moons later, Melody informs Onestar that Bailey died a few moons ago and both hope that Bailey knows her son Brushpaw is happy in StarClan.

Quotes[]

Tansypaw: "Bailey! Wrenflight says I have to pick off the elders' ticks, and I don't want to!"
Bailey: "Wrenflight is your mentor, isn't she?"
Tansypaw: "Yes."
Bailey: "And you're her apprentice."
Tansypaw: "Yes."
Bailey: "Then you'd better do as she tells you, hadn't you?"
Tansypaw: "It's so not fair!"
Onepaw: "We all have to do it. Come on, I'll help you."
Barkface: "No you won't. What would Wrenflight say if she saw you doing the task she gave Tansypaw? But we'll show you what to do. It's not so bad, once you get used to it."
Tansypaw: "I don't want to get used to it."
—Tansypaw arguing with her mother about Wrenflight's punishment Onestar's Confession, page 36

"It wasn't your fault. No matter what Tallstar says, I know it was mine, because I brought my kits into your Clan. I should have known better, but I wanted them to learn to take care of themselves, and that led directly to Brushpaw's—no, Leo's—death."
―Bailey about Brushpaw's death Onestar's Confession, page 81

«[Onestar] couldn't imagine where kittypets went when they died, but he hoped that Bailey did know [about Brushpaw], and was at peace.»
—Onestar's thoughts about Bailey's death Onestar's Confession, page 299
