Chapter description[]

Once again, Blackfoot finds himself back, and his grief for Badgerfang hits him again. Blackfoot asks the kit if he should've tried to convince Brokenstar to not make them warriors. Kits should stay in the nursery when they are young, but listening to the leader was what made them Clans. Badgerfang reminds the tom that he could stop, but Blackfoot decides to continue. Badgerfang gives Blackfoot a life for perspective, to always seek as many points of view as he can. He experiences memories though his Clanmates' eyes, and the kit turns away. A dark gray tom steps forward, with warm eyes, introduces himself as one of the first Clan cats. Blackfoot braces himself as the past takes him away once again.
Blackfoot grumbles that it is late, and Brokenstar is confident that Tallstar would come. Throughout the season, ShadowClan had been increasing the attacks on WindClan, and Blackfoot knew WindClan was afraid. Tallstar and Deadfoot slinks out of the tall grass, eyes wary. Though they had killed Raggedstar, he feels a flicker of respect when Tallstar shows no sign of fear. The tom asks in a cool voice what they wanted. Brokenstar evenly meows that he wanted peace, and Blackfoot barely manages to control his disbelief. Tallstar agrees, waiting for the catch in the offer. The ShadowClan leader continues, saying that peace cannot come without sacrifice.
The black-and-white tom states that they have done nothing to deserve all of the attacks. Brokenstar calmly meows that ShadowClan has flourished, savagely reminding the other leader that WindClan's kits have died. ShadowClan needed more territory, and if they wanted peace, Tallstar would have to allow them hunting rights on their land. Tallstar refuses, saying they are not willing, and disappears into the tall grass alongside Deadfoot.
Blackfoot asks if they had stalled the two cats long enough, and Brokenstar replies that they would find out. Quickly, they cross the Thunderpath and stalk Tallstar and Deadfoot, who are deep in conversation. Tallstar suddenly turns around, and saying something to the deputy, runs toward WindClan's camp. Blackfoot dashes after them, and soon they see ShadowClan raiding the camp. Clearly, they have the upper hand, and Brokenstar attacks Tallstar. Following his leader, Blackfoot takes down Deadfoot.
Deadfoot calls him a snake-heart, asking why they wouldn't leave WindClan alone. Furious, Blackfoot snarls that they wouldn't stop until WindClan was gone. Brokenstar is glaring down at Tallstar, who tells the bigger cat to call off his warriors. The ShadowClan cat warns that WindClan needed to leave the forest by tomorrow. After the two cats stare at each other, Brokenstar steps off the leader and they stream out of camp. Blackfoot asks if they would leave, and Brokenstar amusedly replies that they would.
