"I have high hopes for you, Bluefur. You were my apprentice once, and I will always feel like your mentor. I want you to strive to become the best warrior you can be, because I believe one day ThunderClan will have need of your gifts." |

Chapter description[]
- Bluefur sits alone at the edge of the clearing, absentmindedly playing with a dead mouse. As her Clanmates share tongues before the Gathering, she continues to mourn Snowfur, feeling as if the other cats have forgotten she existed. Tawnyspots scolds her for wasting the mouse, before telling her that Sunstar wants her to attend the Gathering. He tells her to start making an effort, sternly reminding her that he's spared her from as many patrols as he can but that her moping is not helping. With a glance at Whitekit, he points out that Bluefur used to spend as much time with him as she could, and that he must feel like he has lost two mothers.
- As the warriors gather at the camp entrance, Tigerkit runs over, asking if he can join them, and asks Lionheart to tell him what happens because he will stay up all night. Leopardfoot tells him that he should be asleep when the patrol returns, since Robinwing has been looking after the kits all day and deserves rest. Featherwhisker walks beside Bluefur for part of the journey, telling the warrior that Snowfur was watching over her, and she asks if he's seen her in his dreams. He shakes his head, reminding her that she would never stop looking out for Bluefur and Whitekit, though it does little to comfort the blue-gray she-cat. He tells her that the kit needs her, before leaving her to walk alone.
- At Fourtrees, ShadowClan and RiverClan are waiting as ThunderClan and WindClan arrive. Oakheart approaches Bluefur, offering his sympathies for the death of her sister, and she snaps at him. She marches away, walking into Goldenflower, who is enjoying her first Gathering as a warrior. She jokes with Bluefur that Oakheart is full of himself as the Gathering starts. Sunstar begins his report, announcing Lionheart and Goldenflower's warrior names, as well as the birth of Swiftbreeze's kits. Cedarstar's report follows, announcing Yellowfang as Sagewhisker's apprentice. Bluefur bristles at this, thinking of Hawkheart and feeling that medicine cats should never train as warriors. Heatherstar reports that WindClan is enjoying the season, before Hailstar begins his announcements. The RiverClan leader calls Oakheart up to the Great Rock, shocking the gathered cats.
- Oakheart explains that Twolegs have set up temporary camps in RiverClan territory. He goes on to report that he has led the patrols that have investigated, and that they have found the Twolegs to be mostly peaceful and have not threatened the camp. Rosetail asks Bluefur why ThunderClan does not have a warrior like that, making her feel uncomfortable and wondering if she is jealous of the attention Oakheart has gotten.
- The Clans depart, and Bluefur attempts to push Oakheart out of her mind, blaming him for Snowfur's death. Sunstar approaches her, gently reminding her that she has the choice to either burden her Clan or support it. She remembers a similar conversation she had with him when she was his apprentice, after Moonflower's death. As the leader continues to the ThunderClan camp, Bluefur wonders if he knows about Goosefeather's prophecy, thinking that it may just be him rambling once more, even as his words echo in her head.
