Chapter description[]
- Sunstar states StarClan honors Whitepaw for his wisdom and loyalty, and names the white tom Whitestorm. The Clan breaks into cheers, and Bluefur closes her eyes in relief. She had kept her promise to Snowfur and had kept the young tom safe. Patchpelt had trained Whitestorm, a choice she approved of, with Tigerclaw. Whitestorm had grown strong, and now stood with his chin raised. Redpaw, Willowpaw, and Spottedpaw had been apprenticed, and Spottedpaw spent every moment shadowing Featherwhisker, fascinated by the herbs and remedies. Mumblefoot and Weedwhisker had died, and Fuzzypelt and Windflight had retired to the elder's den. White-eye was expecting kits, and Thistleclaw and Tigerclaw had established themselves as senior warriors. Whitestorm thanks Bluefur for everything, and when Lionheart and Goldenflower call him, the tom hurries away. Bluefur hurriedly grabs a mouse and brings it over to Larksong.
- Larksong is curled in her nest, and asks Bluefur if it had gone well. Bluefur tells the old she-cat that the tom's name was Whitestorm now, and Larksong approves of the name. Larksong states that Bluefur would miss Whitestorm. Bluefur says that he would be even closer now, since he was going to move to the warriors' den. Larksong states that the white tom wouldn't need Bluefur as much, and tells the blue-gray she-cat that training Frostpaw would not be the same as raising a kit. Larksong gently tells Bluefur that she had fulfilled her promise, and she had to live her own life now, and states that perhaps Thrushpelt had waited long enough. Bluefur, baffled, scoots away from the den, wondering if the elderly cat was telling her to take Thrushpelt as a mate.
- Tawnyspots informs her that she would be joining a hunting patrol with Lionheart. Lionheart, Goldenflower, Thrushpelt and Bluefur heads for the river, and Lionheart orders them to split up. Bluefur chooses a path through the undergrowth, stopping when she scents Thrushpelt. She doubles back towards the river. Bluefur spots something hop, and drops into a crouch. A moorhen is flitting across the ground, and Bluefur grasps the bird, and kills it. Oakheart comments it is a good catch, and after asking if he was spying on Bluefur, the she-cat heads away. Bluefur reminds herself that he is RiverClan, and Lionheart asks if she was talking to someone. Thrushpelt admires her catch, and Bluefur doesn't meet his gaze, for his praise didn't thrill her as Oakheart's praise did.
