Chapter description[]

Bluefur wakes suddenly, thinking of Oakheart's offer to meet at Fourtrees and feeling her own longing to be close to him. As she leaves her nest, Tigerclaw pushes past her as Tawnyspots begins to organize the day's patrols. Several of Bluefur's Clanmates sit waiting for their assignments as her apprentice, Frostpaw asks what their plan for the day was. Tawnyspots tells Bluefur to stay in camp, citing her injured paw, and Stormtail offers to take Frostpaw out training with Brindlepaw.

Lost in her thoughts, Bluefur is startled when Featherwhisker asks about her injured paw, before returning to his den when Bluefur refuses herbs for it. Later that evening, as a patrol heads to Sunningrocks, Bluefur continues to think about Oakheart. When the patrol returns, triumphant as RiverClan did not show, they celebrate, Bluefur itching with frustration.

Once the Clan retires to their dens, Bluefur stays awake, slowly creeping out as her Clanmates rest around her. She races along the ravine, sneaking into the forest and following the trail used to attend the Gathering. As she draws closer to Fourtrees, she wonders if Oakheart waited for her, realizing this meeting will change the course of her entire life. She senses Snowfur's spirit, wondering if the snowy-white queen was trying to stop her, before shaking herself off and stepping into the hollow.
