"Cats of all Clans. We cannot let the fallen go unrecognized, and that includes ensuring the future of all four Clans together. In times of peace, we stand alone, hunt alone, fight with one another over our boundaries. But more than that, StarClan has shown us that there must always be four Clans beside the lake, and in times of trouble, Clan borders are meaningless." |

Chapter description[]
- Bramblestar wakes to see his Clanmates heading out, and he thinks to himself that the tunnel seems empty without Jessy and Minty. Squirrelflight sorts out the patrols. When Stormpaw says that he doesn’t know how to set the scent marks, the other cats encourage him. He sees Graystripe and Sandstorm looking slightly sad, but now healthier and more rested. When the patrols leave, Squirrelflight meows that it is the night of the Gathering. He answers that the water is low enough now, and the deputy asks who should come. They decide on who to bring, including the elders, Lilyheart, and Stormpaw. As the ginger she-cat turns away, Bramblestar thanks her for supporting him, welcoming the kittypets, and raising three cats he is proud of. She answers that they both did, and he murmurs that he would not do so with anyone else.
- The sky is clear as Bramblestar heads to the lake, but he is also nervous about what Rowanstar will say about ThunderClan’s interference with the badger attack. Squirrelflight meows that he can ignore the ShadowClan leader, as he could not have fought the battle without them. The Clan is excited as they walk along the shore, but the cats soon grow quieter. Sandstorm murmurs that she wonders how many cats did not survive, and Graystripe asks if all the Clans would even be at the Gathering. The Clan is worried as they cross the tree bridge, and Onestar gives Bramblestar a frosty nod. Bramblestar walks over to Mistystar, and asks how she is doing. The gray she-cat meows that they are well, but lost Pebblefoot and Grasspelt in the storm. RiverClan and ThunderClan talk together, but WindClan does not. Onestar says that they should begin without ShadowClan.
- Bramblestar realizes that some of the cats have gone off to check the flood damage. He hears them talking, and Cherryfall shrieks. She yowls that she found the stick. Jayfeather joyfully takes it, and Bramblestar feels comforted that the deceased cats would not be forgotten. The ginger she-cat explains that it is a memorial to the cats who died in the Great Battle. The other Clans share the ways they commemorate the fallen. A cat says that they list the names of the dead at the first owl call, and Bramblestar realizes that it is Rowanstar with his Clan. The dark brown tom feels their shared emotions, and he suddenly raises his head to see starry cats. The ThunderClan leader sees that they are the cats who they lost in the battle. Firestar walks up to him and states that there is a way to honor all of the Clans, and the StarClan cats then disappear.
- Onestar announces that he will begin, but Bramblestar cuts him off. He begins by saying that they must ensure the future of the four Clans together. In times of peace, they stand independent, but StarClan showed that in times of trouble, borders are meaningless. He pauses, and continues that he wishes to create a new rule for the code– that the Clans can be independent, but in times of trouble, they must help one another. Rowanstar hisses that it is like Firestar is still alive, and Bramblestar answers that he is leader now, and is proud to uphold Firestar’s legacy. He sees Squirrelflight gazing at him from below, and he finishes that the strength of many preserves all. Mistystar agrees, and Onestar mutters that he also does. Rowanstar growls that he supposes so. The Clans enthusiastically yowl, and Bramblestar thinks to himself that the Clans have survived many things and the code is now even stronger.
