Broken Feather is a tom.[2]
In The Sun Trail, Silver Frost offers Misty Water an eagle carcass. Misty Water declines the offer, and states that ever since Broken Feather died, she had no appetite. She sadly mews that Broken Feather would have survived, had there been enough prey for every cat to eat. Misty Water adds that now she is only waiting to join him. When Snow Hare tells Gray Wing that Misty Water was too old and nearly blind to go find Jagged Peak, Gray Wing notes that Broken Feather told him many times that Misty Water was the best scent tracker he had ever known.
