Darkness Within

"I've never seen ghosts fade like that before. Do you know what's happening to them?"

Rootspring notices Cheddar after a vigil is held for those killed in battle against the impostor. She approaches him and Tree almost carelessly, as Rootspring notes that no warrior would do so, placing her to instead be a kittypet. The she-cat is shocked when she notices that they can see her, noting that most living cats cannot. Tree mentions that the pair of them are different from most living cats. Rootspring asks her if she has seen other spirits around and she states that she had. But, it was usually just her as the new spirits fade in and out. The young tom presses for more information, and Cheddar describes some of them, noting a brown tom with ginger legs. She notices both Tree and Rootspring's expressions change at this mention, and she asks if they knew him. Tree tells her that they had lost Clanmates recently.

Cheddar nervously explains that she had never seen ghosts fade in and out before and asks if they knew why. Tree offers the theory that they might be trying to find their way to StarClan. The she-cat comments that StarClan must be a scary place as all the Clan cats ghosts looked afraid. She instead suggests that they may be fading away into nothing. At this suggestion, she begins freaking out at the idea. Tree comforts her with the fact that she would not due to not being a warrior. Comforted slightly, Cheddar turns to take her leave, but Rootspring asks her to tell the Clan cats' ghosts if she sees them again, that their Clanmates are trying to help. With a simple promise, she takes her leave.
