Cherrytail is a fluffy[11] tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat[12] with green eyes[13] and hard gray paw pads.[14]

Cherrytail is a SkyClan elder under Leafstar's leadership in the gorge and lake territories who formerly served as a warrior. She was formerly a kittypet named Cherry alongside her brother, Boris. Cherry and Boris joined SkyClan as apprentices and she was renamed Cherrypaw with Sharpclaw as her mentor. She participated in a battle against the rats that were tormenting SkyClan and earned her warrior name, Cherrytail. She was then appointed mentor to Rockshade.

Cherrytail and Sharpclaw later became mates and had four kits, Hawkwing, Cloudmist, Blossomheart, and Duskpaw. She traveled with her Clan after being driven out by Darktail, but was heavily affected by the deaths of Duskpaw and Sharpclaw. Due to her injuries and her grief, she decided to stay at Barley's barn with Cloudmist. When Hawkwing and his patrol reunited with her, they accompanied him back to where SkyClan had settled at the lake. She later retired to the elders' den alongside Sparrowpelt.

Hawkwing leads a patrol to the gorge to search for their missing Clanmates and reach Barley's barn. Cherrytail and Cloudmist joyfully reunite with Hawkwing and Blossomheart, and Cherrytail meets her granddaughter, Violetpaw. They eagerly ask questions and are updated on SkyClan's current whereabouts and everything that has happened since they last saw each other. Despite being unsure at first, she and Cloudmist eventually decide to travel with the patrol to the lake and rejoin SkyClan. When they arrive at camp, Leafstar rushes to greet her old friend.

In Firestar's Quest, Cherry and her brother, Boris, are kittypets who frequently torment Skywatcher. They meet Firestar and Sandstorm and Firestar gives them a hunting lesson. The ThunderClan leader tells her about SkyClan and that he believes she is descended from them, and Cherry is enthusiastic about the idea of joining. She and Boris go to Twolegplace to recruit other cats. Afterward, Cherry and Boris official join SkyClan as apprentices named Cherrypaw and Sparrowpaw, with Cherrypaw being mentored by Sharpclaw. She fights in the battle against the rats and is made a warrior named Cherrytail, receiving Rockpaw as her first apprentice.
In SkyClan's Destiny, Cherrytail's apprentice earns the warrior name Rockshade. Due to having left her kittypet life completely behind, Cherrytail is critical of the daylight-warriors, who return to their Housefolk at night. She joins a patrol to drive rats out of the Twoleg dump and a later attends a mission to get revenge on the Twoleg who tormented Petalnose and Shrewtooth. After finding an injured Twoleg kit, Cherrytail goes in search of its parents. Later, Cherrytail fights against Dodge's group of rogues with her Clanmates and Stick's group. After the battle, Cherrytail is the most injured out of all the Clan cats. She later makes a full recovery and is able to continue her duties as a warrior.
In Hawkwing's Journey, Sharpclaw and Cherrytail's son, Duskpaw, dies in a fire, leaving her and her family grief-stricken. The rest of their kits are made warriors named Cloudmist, Blossomheart, and Hawkwing. Later, Darktail's rogues attack and drive SkyClan out of the gorge, killing Cherrytail's mate, Sharpclaw. Finding out that Sharpclaw has been killed breaks her, and she tries her best to move on. SkyClan stays at Barley's barn before continuing on their journey to reunite with the other Clans, but Cherrytail remains behind with Barley as the Clan departs, her injuries from the attack making her too weak to journey in addition to needing time to process her grief over losing Sharpclaw. Cloudmist stays with her mother to support her, and they bid farewell to the rest of their kin and hope to meet again one day.

SkyClan and the Stranger[]

He keeps telling her she shouldn't be working so hard, since she's expecting kits, and Cherrytail keeps telling him to quit worrying, while I try to keep myself from teasing him about it too much. Cherrytail begins showing interest in Sharpclaw. She admits her feelings for him to Leafstar as well as her own desire to have kits. After the flood, Cherrytail is visibly pregnant with Sharpclaw's kits. Sharpclaw urges her not to work so hard during her pregnancy, and she hides with the apprentices when the camp is attacked by rogues.

  • Despite having returned to SkyClan,[1] Cherrytail and Cloudmist are not included in the allegiances, and do not appear in River of Fire.[15][16]
  • Cherrytail appears on a patrol with Hawkwing,[20] and a few moments later, she appears in camp with Leafstar although Hawkwing takes his patrol to the Moonpool.[21]
  • Despite Cherrytail being listed as an elder in The Elders' Quest,[8] Fallowfern is noted to be the sole elder in the book.[22]
  • Cherry is referred to as a tom.[23]
