- Chirp returns from hunting with Merry while Jingo is talking with the Clan cats. Hussar tells them to come and meet the Clan cats. Chirp pads over and sits down. But he stays near the door casting nervous glances over his shoulder.
- Later, when Brambleclaw asks whether they have seen Sol, Chirp, surprising Lionblaze, says: "I haven't seen Sol but I heard he's back. Not here but on the other side of Twolegplace, where a cat called Purdy lives."
