"Banishing cats! Clans are supposed to stick together, not turn their backs on their Clanmates."
— Cloverfoot angry with the codebreakers' punishments in The Silent Thaw, page 225

Cloverfoot is a gray tabby she-cat.[1]

Cloverfoot is the current deputy of ShadowClan under Tigerstar's leadership in the lake territories. She was born to Snowbird and Scorchfur alongside her littermates, Berryheart and Rippletail. When Needlepaw sparked a rebellion with ShadowClan's apprentices against Rowanstar, Cloverfoot agreed with them, and she left with many others joining the Kin. After realizing Darktail's true sinister nature, she escaped the Kin, reuniting with Sparrowtail, Slatefur, and Berryheart. The four lived in a disheveled Twoleg nest as rogues until they were found by Tigerheart and accompanied the patrol back to the lake. Cloverfoot reunited with former Clanmates and kin, rejoining ShadowClan under Tigerstar.

She was among the hardest working to rebuild her Clan and formed a friendship with Alderheart when he helped heal Puddleshine. Following Juniperclaw's demotion, Cloverfoot was made deputy and stood by Tigerstar throughout the coldest leaf-bare. She attended the secret meetings of Bramblestar's impostor and was desired to have him out. After Tigerstar overthrew RiverClan, he made Icewing and Cloverfoot temporary co-leaders, though the ShadowClan deputy wasn't warmly welcomed.

A Vision of Shadows[]

"Cloverfoot will be ShadowClan's deputy now. Like Juniperclaw, she once turned her back on the Clans...But I believe that, like Juniperclaw, she is ready to serve her Clan honestly and in good faith."
―Tigerstar announcing the new deputy The Raging Storm, pages 317-318
Cloverfoot is among the many to defect from ShadowClan and join the Kin, but she realizes her mistake and escapes, reuniting with her littermate, Berryheart, Berryheart's mate, Sparrowtail, and a younger warrior, Slatefur. The four cats are encountered by Tigerheart and brought back to ShadowClan, where they rejoin the now reunited Clan. Cloverfoot is among the hardest to rebuild ShadowClan and forms a bond with Alderheart as he heals Puddleshine. When Juniperclaw is demoted of his deputy position and drowns, Cloverfoot is chosen as his successor, with Tigerstar noting that he believes she will serve him and ShadowClan with honesty and faith.

The Broken Code[]

"All the codebreakers want to be loyal warriors. I don't understand why they must be punished."
―Cloverfoot at the secret meeting. The Silent Thaw, page 225
Cloverfoot stands by ShadowClan and Tigerstar when Shadowpaw experiences visions, and the Moonpool freezes over, suggesting that Tigerstar informs the rest of the Clans. She provides a voice of reason within ShadowClan and advises Tigerstar on various matters. She later becomes suspicious of the way Bramblestar was acting towards codebreakers and attends a secret meeting between the Clans to discuss the matter. She later becomes aware that the Bramblestar leading ThunderClan is an impostor and desires to out him and restore the true Bramblestar back. Cloverfoot volunteered as ShadowClan's representative to enter the Dark Forest to defeat Ashfur, but that position went to Lightleap instead.

A Starless Clan[]

"Mistystar decorated the walls with shells and feathers, and now the RiverClan cats keep accusing me of moving or changing them. And I haven't touched a single one! [...] And that's not all. I often go into the den and find my bedding strewn across the floor, or a piece of crow-food left in my nest. I can't prove it, but I'm sure RiverClan warriors are behind it."
―Cloverfoot to Sunbeam about RiverClan's treatment of her Shadow, pages 102-103
Following ShadowClan's takeover of RiverClan, Tigerstar assigns his deputy Cloverfoot and Icewing as temporary leaders of the Clan while he returns to ShadowClan's camp. Cloverfoot and Icewing share the leadership duties until StarClan chooses a new leader, though several RiverClan warriors speak out against ShadowClan's occupation. While Cloverfoot sleeps in the leader's den for her own safety, some RiverClan warriors began plotting against her by ruining her nest or ignoring her orders. Cloverfoot brought these concerns to Icewing, who was unsure what power she had to stop them. Eventually, Tigerstar decides to send more ShadowClan warriors to stay in RiverClan's camp to deter the plots against him.

Super Editions[]

Warning: Rippletail's appearances in Tigerheart's Shadow are a mistake as confirmed by Kate Cary and further installments in the canon. Slatefur was meant to be in the patrol traveling with Tigerheart.
"We've been worried about going home. We joined the rogues. We fought the Clans. We weren't sure ShadowClan would have us back. That's why we've stayed away."
―Cloverfoot to Tigerheart Tigerheart's Shadow, page 339
In Tigerheart's Shadow, Cloverfoot, Sparrowtail, Rippletail, and Berryheart are encountered by Tigerheart, Spire, and Dovewing, and though Tigerheart is initially ready to reject them as traitors, he comes to realize that it would make him a hypocrite and accepts them on his trek to ShadowClan. On the way, Cloverfoot becomes the aunt to Sparrowtail and Berryheart's latest litter of kits, Hollowkit, Spirekit, and Sunkit. When Tigerheart dies, she helps shield the six young kits they have from his corpse and rejoins ShadowClan when he is revived as Tigerstar.

Quotes[]

Cloverfoot: "What we were thinking? How could we have let this happen? Supported a cat like Darktail?"
Rippletail: "We believed him. That's all. He said he was the strongest, and we went along."
Cloverfoot: "And now ShadowClan is gone because of it. Because of him...because of us."
Rippletail: "Well, stupid mistakes or not...Berryheart, I thought we'd never see you again. I'm so glad you're all right!"
Berryheart: "That's the trouble, [Rippletail]. I'm not all right. None of us are. But we can be. StarClan will guide us. We just...we can't give up. As long as we don't give up, sooner or later...StarClan will guide us home."
—Cloverfoot, Rippletail, and Berryheart admitting their mistakes Tigerheart's Shadow, comic

Cloverfoot: "Remember how we all slept away from each other in the Twoleg den, Slatefur? I miss that sometimes."
Tawnypelt: "Fine. But if you liked the Twoleg den so much, Cloverfoot, maybe you should go back there. You’re supposed to be a ShadowClan cat now."
—Cloverfoot at a Clan meeting Tawnypelt's Clan, chapter 4

Cloverfoot: "What are you doing? Do you need those?"
Alderheart: "I'm clearing out the useless herbs."
Cloverfoot: "How do I know you’re not destroying Puddleshine’s stocks?"
Alderheart: "Why would I do that? I’m a medicine cat, not a warrior. I don’t want to harm any cat."
Cloverfoot: "What about him? You fed him deathberries."
Alderheart: "To cure him. Do you seriously think I’d try to kill your medicine cat?"
Cloverfoot: "If we lose him, the whole of ShadowClan will suffer."
—Cloverfoot and Alderheart The Raging Storm, chapter 10
