Creek and the rest of the toms living among the Sisters are noticed by Squirrelflight when she and Leafstar are captured, and she thinks that although the toms are smaller than the she-cats, they are still sleek and well-fed. Furze, Creek's mother, later formally introduces Squirrelflight and Leafstar to her son. A couple days later, Creek, Moonlight, Snow, and Sparrow work to build Moonlight's birthing den. Moonlight sends Snow and Creek to fetch more vines, and they rush out of camp. They return soon after, dragging long vines between them, which they drop beside the birthing den. That night, Stone and Grass, the only other toms in the group, are sent away to wander.

The next morning, cats from ThunderClan and SkyClan arrive at the Sisters' camp to take back Squirrelflight and Leafstar. During the Clans' conversation with the Sisters, Tree emerges from the crowd and reveals that Moonlight was the mother who abandoned him when he was a kit. Hearing this, Creek shoots a nervous glance at his mother, and Squirrelflight wonders if the young tom is anxious about leaving when his time comes to wander. When Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Cherryfall, and Blossomfall visit the Sisters' camp to ask what meadow saffron looks like, Squirrelflight informs Moonlight of how her daughter Sparkpelt's mate, Larksong, and one of their kits died. Moonlight tells Squirrelflight about a ceremony the Sisters have to send off young spirits, and she beckons Snow, Furze, and Creek nearer to her with her tail. Creek and the rest of the Sisters then perform the ceremony.

Later, Tree, Squirrelflight, and Leafstar arrive at the Sister's camp to try and negotiate with them so that SkyClan can move on to their territory. Snow leads Tree to Moonlight's den, and they pass Sparrow, Sunrise, Tempest, Hawk, Furze, and Creek, who are lying in a patch of sunshine. Creek bristles at Tree and asks why a tom is there. Tree retorts that Creek is a tom, but Creek says that Tree is too old to be there. Tree grunts that Creek will be old one day.

The diplomacy mission fails, and the Clans decide to attack the Sisters. Squirrelflight secretly rushes to the Sisters' camp to warn the group of she-cats, only to find that Moonlight is giving birth. Creek and Flurry crouch wide-eyed at the edge of camp as Moonlight's wails echo throughout the clearing, Furze pacing anxiously beside them. After Moonlight's kits are born, Squirrelflight peers out of the birthing den to see Creek, Furze, and Flurry near the center of the clearing, hackles high. The air around them is thick with Clan scents, and as Sunrise joins Creek and the others, Clan cats begin to creep from the shadows of the bushes. Flurry hisses to Squirrelflight not to tell the Clans about Moonlight's kits so as to not make it seem like Moonlight is weak, and Creek flicks his tail in agreement.

The Clan cats and the Sisters begin to argue, and Creek tells Tigerstar that if he wants the Sisters' camp, he'll need to take it by force. Squirrelflight thinks desperately that Creek isn't even old enough to be an apprentice, and can't fight warriors. Seconds later, the clearing explodes into battle, and Creek disappears beneath a throng of writhing pelts. Squirrelflight watches as Creek rolls out from the pack, then turns and hurls himself at Cloverfoot. He drags the ShadowClan deputy onto her back and leaps on top of her, trying to pin her down. Cloverfoot tries to twist free, but Creek holds her fast. Crowfeather leaps from his Clanmates' sides and slams into Creek, sending the kit crashing into a bramble. The WindClan warrior leaps after Creek, followed by Breezepelt, Scorchfur, and Gorsetail.

Squirrelflight stares in horror as Creek disappears beneath the swarm of warriors. Twigbranch flashes past Squirrelflight, but stops when Squirrelflight drags her away from the fighting and informs her of how the rest of the Sisters have gone with Leafpool to take Moonlight's kits somewhere safe, leaving Flurry, Furze, Sunrise and Creek to fight on their own. Sunrise calls a retreat and flees, and Furze calls to Creek and Flurry to follow her as she dashes after Sunrise. Creek leaps to his paws and hares after his campmates, crashing through the bramble and disappearing. Tigerstar and the rest of the warriors give chase.

The Sisters retreat to a nearby cave, but the Clans follow and corner them. The Sisters attack, and the two groups of cats begin to fight once more. Creek is last seen tumbling across the ground with Thornclaw as they tear at each other's pelts. Squirrelflight barges past them to warn Leafpool as the cave begins to collapse.
