History

Graystripe's Vow

"Feather leaped toward him to thrust him out of the way. But it was too late. They were both buried."

Crest is a member of the Tribe of Rushing Water. She brushes past Graystripe, looking terrified, and panickily asks for Stoneteller. Graystripe thinks of Flipclaw, and suspects that something has happened to the tom. Brook soothes Crest, and the she-cat reveals that Flipclaw and Feather have been buried in a rockslide. Graystripe states that they have to rescue them, and Brook agrees. Stoneteller appears and tells Crest to report. Crest once more relays her story, and Stoneteller responds that they will help Flipclaw and Feather.

Stoneteller decides that Graystripe, Brook, Thorn, and a muscular tom will go to dig Flipclaw and Feather out. Stormfur, upon hearing about the accident, joins the rescue patrol. Crest leads them to a grass-covered plain where they can see the rockslide. Feather and Pine are digging furiously at the edge. Feather, shaking in terror and bleeding, informs them that he was able to escape, but that Flipclaw is still buried. The moon rises and the cats continue to dig, and eventually they are able to find Flipclaw's body. He is first thought to be dead by Graystripe, but Stoneteller is able to help resuscitate him, and also reset Flipclaw's dislocated hind leg. When the task is done, the rescue patrol heads back to the cave.
