"It's not my food or your food. It's our food. What we catch belongs to you and what you catch belongs to us. We share."

Riverstar's Home[]

Croak: "We're not climbers."
Dew: "You must have climbed a tree once in your life."
Croak: "I guess."
Hollow: "It'll be easy."
River Ripple: "If we can swim, we can climb."
Croak: "I'll do my best."
—Croak's hesitance about climbing trees to defeat One Eye Riverstar's Home, page 244
Croak is a loner who decides to join River Ripple's informal group of loners by the river. She has a sharp sense of smell and prefers to hunt land prey. She finds a good place to build her nest in a hollow beyond the thicket. Croak later hunts with Whistle, Hollow, and River Ripple to catch a weasel. When Casper injures Night, Croak asks Whistle and Hollow to fetch wet moss to clean her wound, and the tortoiseshell she-cat does her best to treat it. The next morning, Croak reports that Night's wound is infected, and River Ripple fetches Dappled Pelt from the moor cats to help Night. Croak and Sage watch Dappled Pelt treat Night's wound and learn from her. Croak and Hollow leave the group on a short wander, and River Ripple wonders if she will come back. Croak, Hollow, and Whistle return to the group the day after the fire.
The informal group moves to the island to make camp, with Croak joining them, but she and the other loners begin to wander again, having no loyalty towards the group. Croak later returns and accepts River Ripple as the group's official leader. Croak participates in the battle against One Eye, and she climbs a tree to surround his rogues after some reassurance. She fights off a tortoiseshell rogue. After the battle, Croak is pleased that they won. Later, Croak tells River Ripple that Shattered Ice and Dappled Pelt have arrived to speak with him. While discussing potential trainers for Kite's kits, River Ripple suggests that Croak might help Snow Tail with his confidence. The tortoiseshell she-cat confronts Moss and Dawn when they eat their catch before bringing it back to camp to share, and she and Hollow are pleased when the two former rogues apologize.
Seasons later, Croak is hunting with Riverstar, Snow Tail, Spider Paw, Hollow, Mist, and Pine Needle when they encounter Cloud Spots and Lightning Tail with Arc. She later hunts with Kite Wing and Snow Tail by the stepping stones. While Riverstar worries about his former mentor, Night encourages him to join Croak's patrol since Snow Tail appreciates when his Clan leader watches his training progress. When Riverstar returns from his journey, Croak shows off the new warriors' den that they built. The silver tom later officially appoints Snow Tail as Croak's apprentice. Croak sits with Finch while she is giving birth and licks Ripple Shine warm. The tortoiseshell warrior later participates in the battle with SkyClan, and she attacks Blossom.
