| "I used to trust you completely, Crowfeather. I was pleased when Onestar chose you to mentor Featherpaw. But now—now I wonder if your carelessness contributed to Breezepelt's foolishness. I thought his problems were being overblown by other cats, but now I look at you differently. I'm not sure if either of us will ever trust you again. You could have gotten Featherpaw killed." |

Chapter description[]
- The stoats surround the apprentices, and Crowfeather's patrol rushes to their aid. As they do so, Featherpaw is overwhelmed, and Crowfeather protects her and drags her out of the tunnel. He calls Breezepelt, Heathertail, and Hootpaw to help defend her, but the stoats retreat. Crowfeather says that they need to take Featherpaw home, and she seeks his praise before falling unconscious. As they near WindClan's camp, Breezepelt assures Crowfeather that Featherpaw's paw will recover because he once had a similar injury, and Crowfeather realizes how little attention he has paid to Breezepelt. They take Featherpaw to the medicine den, and Heathertail returns with news that WindClan is outnumbered by the stoats, before retrieving Featherpaw's parents.
- Crowfeather explains how the apprentices followed his patrol, and Kestrelflight expresses uncertainty for her recovery. Emberfoot scolds Crowfeather for allowing Featherpaw to be injured, and Crowfeather admits to encouraging her boldness. Emberfoot and Sedgewhisker blame him for Featherpaw's condition, and he apologizes, regretting not being there for his Clan. Kestrelflight sends them out of the den to let Featherpaw rest. The other warriors inquire about what happened, and Crowfeather explains what he told Featherpaw's parents, horrifying them. Crowfeather expresses concern about Kestrelflight's vision, warning of a potential threat after the stoats, and Breezepelt supports him. Crowfeather recommends asking ThunderClan for help, an idea that Onestar rejects, not wanting ThunderClan to interfere regularly. Leaftail suggests that Breezepelt is untrustworthy, and Breezepelt says that he does not need WindClan, causing an uproar.
- As Onestar stops the argument, Crowfeather returns to the medicine den, and Kestrelflight allows him to stay with Featherpaw. He apologizes to his apprentice before falling asleep, and he dreams of Ashfoot and Feathertail. Feathertail tells him that she is concerned about his behavior with Breezepelt, asking why Crowfeather will not show him his love. When Crowfeather is uncertain as to how to repair his relationship with his troubled son, Feathertail tells him to accept Breezepelt as he is. He wonders aloud about the stoats, and she tells him to put WindClan first. Crowfeather awakens and resolves to prioritize his Clan.
