Chapter description

Crowfeather is thrown off balance by the appearance of the kittypet tom and feels a twinge of jealousy. Nightcloud comments that the patrol took their time finding her, but Crowfeather sees that she is happy to see them. Pickle's questions are ignored as the Clan cats try to find a way out of the Twoleg den. They realize that they need the Twolegs to open the door, but Pickle tells the wandering cats that the Twolegs are asleep and don't like to be woken up. Pickle also tries to persuade Nightcloud to stay with him. Nightcloud offers him a place in WindClan, but Pickle declines, telling her he has to guard his housefolk.

The patrol finds a way to get Nightcloud out, but Pickle almost ruins their plan by alerting the Twolegs. After they get out, the patrol helps Nightcloud take off a bandage put on by the Twolegs to help her not scratch her wound. She then tells the patrol how she ended up in the Twoleg den. She says that she was on ThunderClan territory but was chased by three foxes and was narrowly saved by a Twoleg and its dog. She continues, saying that she met a weird but decent cat named Yew, and Crowfeather adds that he met him as well. Nightcloud says that Yew tried to help her with her wounds, but eventually told her to wail helplessly for Twolegs to help her with her wounds, and after that, the Twolegs wrapped a bandage around her leg and let her stay with Pickle.

Nightcloud tells Crowfeather that she is surprised that he came for her. Breezepelt says that they would never have given up on Nightcloud, and she tells him that she knew he would never give up on her and would come looking. Crowfeather feels a pang of jealousy of Nightcloud and Breezepelt's bond. The patrol crosses ThunderClan territory and reach WindClan land, being extra careful not to encounter any ThunderClan cats. They reached camp, but Crowfeather has to stop himself from retching because of a foul smell of stoats, realizing that they had attacked WindClan.
