Chapter description[]
- Crowfeather bounds across the moor with Harespring, wondering what the latter could say to Bramblestar. He states that they better wait for a patrol, saying that they don't want to trespass. Harespring addresses Crowfeather about going to ThunderClan for help, and tells him that even if he thinks his leader is wrong, they must listen to him. Crowfeather opens up to Harespring, saying that Onestar was right to make him deputy and Harespring is surprised. The deputy uncomfortably asks if Crowfeather thinks it is strange talking to Leafpool after his time with him, but the Crowfeather simply brushes it off, saying it is all in the past.
- They meet a patrol consisting of Poppyfrost, her apprentice Lilypaw, and Birchfall. Poppyfrost remarks that Crowfeather is spending more time in ThunderClan territory than his own. Crowfeather thinks that Poppyfrost shouldn't lecture him, but responds by saying he was grateful for permission to cross, and that the patrol found Nightcloud. The ThunderClan patrol eventually lets them cross into their territory while Harespring tells Crowfeather to let him do the talking.
- The cats arrive at ThunderClan's camp. Crowfeather notices many unwelcoming glances towards them. Harespring asks Bramblestar for one of ThunderClan's medicine cats. Bramblestar remembers how Onestar rejected and insulted him when he came to offer help, but he eventually agrees when he hears about the stoats attacking WindClan's camp, and asks Squirrelflight to fetch Leafpool and Jayfeather. Bramblestar tells them that Leafpool can go with them, which Leafpool is relieved to hear.
- It is a bit awkward between Crowfeather and Leafpool as they talk about the tom's relationship with Nightcloud. They encounter a stoat, and Crowfeather fights the animal and is about to chase it off when Leafpool points out that he's injured. Crowfeather suddenly realizes that he is bleeding where the stoat bit him, and is rushed to the WindClan camp. Crowfeather hears snippets of Leafpool telling Harespring what to do, and he feels like he's going to die without reconciling with Breezepelt or Nightcloud.
