«She's trying to sound brave, Galepaw understood, even if she doesn't feel it. Crowpaw was skilled at hiding her emotions, but Galepaw had always been bolder than her sister. Even as a little kit, Crowpaw had hardly dared to step outside the nursery without their mother.»

Crowpaw attends the Gathering alongside her mother Ripplegrass and littermate Galepaw while the Clan leaders argue about SkyClan's disappearance. She worries that the other Clans will also be forced to leave if the Twolegs continue to destroy their homes. Ripplegrass reassures her daughters to not worry about that.
Seasons later, Crowflight becomes a warrior and joins StormClan when her sister Galestar decides to merge WindClan with ThunderClan. She helps Galestar evacuate the former ThunderClan camp during a fire. When Galestar and Stripestar decide to lead StormClan out of the forest to find a new home, Crowflight chooses to remain behind. She insists that StormClan has always felt wrong. When Galestar still insists on traveling, Crowflight attempts to convince her sister otherwise by reminding her of the promise they made to Ripplegrass before she died: they would always stay together. Frustrated with her sister for breaking their promise, Crowflight reminds Galestar that they are WindClan cats and descendants of Windstar, the first leader of WindClan. The sisters argue, and Crowflight ends with the revelation that she is not the only cat remaining behind. Crowflight personally blames Stripestar for influencing Galestar's decision to leave.
During the farewell, Crowflight stares vigilantly at her sister while the others bid farewell, but Galestar can tell her sister is grieving. Crowflight bids her sister farewell with a parting lick. In a later argument with Stripestar, Galestar recounts how she gave up her sister by leading StormClan away. After StormClan leaves, Crowflight joins RiverClan under Birchstar's leadership. When WindClan and ThunderClan return to the forest, Crowflight is chosen to become WindClan's new leader as Crowstar. Seasons later, Stripebark recalls how Crowstar is still struggling to regain territory from Snakestar.

Galestar: "No cat is prouder of her ancestors than I am. But pride is no reason to die a slow death by starvation. That is what you are suggesting, Crowflight. I don't want that. And I don't want it for you, either."
Crowflight: "Don't worry about me. I won't be alone."
Galestar: "What do you mean?"
Crowflight: "I mean, I'm not the only cat who isn't going to go along with this."
Galestar: "Very well, then. What will you do? Start a new Clan? Throw yourselves on the mercy of RiverClan, or ShadowClan?"
Crowflight: "I don't know. Perhaps I'll become a rogue. But whatever happens, I will dream of the day that WindClan runs on the moors once again. When our camp is full of fresh-kill, and the nursery rings with the cries of newborn kits. That's my dream, Galestar. And my greatest wish is that..."
