- Two days after the encounter with the kittypets, Ivypool suggests going back for prey, though she rethinks it when Dovewing reminds her of the kittypets and their dogs. Whistlepaw mentions finding kittypet food at the Twolegplace, but Rootspring is concerned that the kittypets there may be like the barn kittypets. When they meet Slate and Beach, Ivypool thinks they are the kittypets, but when Rootspring asks about it, the two loners say that they are not with the kittypets. Beach mentions having to fight off a dog, and Ivypool wonders if it was one of the barn kittypets' dogs. As they pass the barn, Beach explains that one of the kittypets had injured him, and Ivypool talks about the Clan cats' trouble with them. When the dogs attack them again, Ivypool wonders if the kittypets had sent the dogs after them. Once the dogs leave, Rootspring says that they should move on before they are found again.
