When the kittypets attack Ivypool's group in the barn, Curry is cornered by Dovewing. She stops fighting when Zeke tells her and Pumpernickel to relax. However, while they discuss WarriorClan, Ivypool remarks that they are not real warriors like the Clans since they have housefolk. Curry is angered by this, and when Ivypool pushes her further, Curry attacks her, setting off another fight. Ivypool shoves Curry off, but Curry refuses to give in, and Ivypool pins her down. When the kittypets are defeated, Ivypool lets Curry go and warns them to leave. After fleeing from the dogs, Rootspring is in disbelief over the kittypets' arrangement with them, and Ivypool is irritated by them. Ivypool, Dovewing, and Rootspring laugh over the kittypets when they return to Whistlepaw and Icewing.

Two days after the encounter with the kittypets, Ivypool suggests going back for prey, though she rethinks it when Dovewing reminds her of the kittypets and their dogs. Whistlepaw mentions finding kittypet food at the Twolegplace, but Rootspring is concerned that the kittypets there may be like the barn kittypets. When they meet Slate and Beach, Ivypool thinks they are the kittypets, but when Rootspring asks about it, the two loners say that they are not with the kittypets. Beach mentions having to fight off a dog, and Ivypool wonders if it was one of the barn kittypets' dogs. As they pass the barn, Beach explains that one of the kittypets had injured him, and Ivypool talks about the Clan cats' trouble with them. When the dogs attack them again, Ivypool wonders if the kittypets had sent the dogs after them. Once the dogs leave, Rootspring says that they should move on before they are found again.
