Chapter description[]
- Twigpaw and Finpaw play with a moss ball in SkyClan's camp. Twigpaw worries about her father and sister, though he dismisses her worries as there is nothing she can do to help them. Twigpaw suddenly scents ShadowClan cats, and Juniperclaw strides into camp. Fallowfern questions him, but he antagonizes her. She is unable to hear him, however, and Leafstar sends her away, apologizing for the she-cat having accidentally crossed the border. Leafpool returns to camp with herbs, immediately confused and blames herself for sending Fallowfern to the wrong area. Juniperclaw is unimpressed with her reasoning, and tells SkyClan off before leaving.
- While Leafpool and Leafstar discuss the conversation, Twigpaw worries. Leafstar tells her and Finpaw to clean out the warriors' den, though Finpaw is unhappy with the idea. They decide to sneak out of camp to go hunting, and Twigpaw is happy that Sandynose will not be there to critique her. Finpaw is frustrated with his injured tail throwing off his balance, however, and believes that he will be the worst warrior in the Clan. Twigpaw reassures him, and Leafpool calls the apprentices' names and tells them to return to camp before Sandynose finds out. Finpaw returns to camp without Twigpaw, who decides to keep hunting.
- Twigpaw approaches the ThunderClan border, running directly into her former mentor, Ivypool. Ivypool does not seem pleased to see her former apprentice, upset that Twigpaw left ThunderClan to be with Violetpaw, but the two she-cats make up. Ivypool and Twigpaw talk for a little while, and Twigpaw reveals that she has seen Dovewing talking to Tigerheart recently. Twigpaw apologizes as she wonders if Dovewing is going to change Clans as well, and the two cats end their conversation to return to their respective homes. Twigpaw reflects on missing her former mentor and ThunderClan, but knows she would not like having to meet with Finpaw in secret.
