Chapter description[]

Jayfeather comments that the catmint Alderheart is unraveling is starting to rot, while the ginger medicine cat states that the ongoing rain may stop that day. The blind tabby tom points out the fact that Alderheart had said that the day before. The young ThunderClan medicine cat exits the den, walking out to the fresh-kill pile, where Graystripe stands. The gray elder compliments the niceness of the weather for ducks. Graystripe picks a mouse from the pile and trods back to the elders' den. At the camp entrance, Ivypool, Thornclaw, Lionblaze, and Fernsong enter. Realizing that the patrol had been looking for Dovewing, Alderheart asks about the pale gray she-cat, but Ivypool reports that Rowanstar or Leafstar had not picked up a trace of her scent. The ginger tom notes that Dovewing's scent would be difficult to pick up during a storm like that, recalling the prophecy StarClan had given the medicine cats.
Lionblaze reports that Twigpaw had seen Dovewing and Tigerheart together a quarter-moon before the ThunderClan she-cat had gone missing, while Thornclaw goes to the nursery to check on Blossomfall and their kits. Ivypool wonders to Fernsong if the others think that Dovewing betrayed them, but the yellow tom reminds her that Lionblaze knows that Dovewing had fought the Dark Forest cats during the Great Battle. Noticing the terrible weather, Ivypool asks if they should evacuate the camp, as that kind of weather had caused a tree to fall and kill Longtail while paralyzing Briarlight.
Then, a cliff top comes crashing down onto the Highledge, causing Ivypool to call for an evacuation of the camp. Lionblaze orders Brackenfur to make sure every cat is out of the warrior and elders' dens are clear. The tabby tom calls Cinderheart and Bumblestripe to help him check, while ordering Poppyfrost to escort Graystripe and Millie to the lakeshore. As the queens get the kits out of the camp, another stone falls into the clearing near the medicine den, causing Alderheart to look for Briarlight and Jayfeather.
More warriors come, while Alderheart spots Jayfeather using his body to protect Briarlight from any stones. Lionblaze gets both of them away from the danger, while Snowbush and Cloudtail come and swoop up Jayfeather's herbs. Alderheart and Snowbush realize that they are the last ones in the camp, and as Alderheart exits, a boulder falls on top of Snowbush. The ThunderClan medicine cat gets the white tom out of the camp, trying to save his life. He reports to Lilyheart that the tom's leg is broken, but internally notices that the ThunderClan warrior had stopped breathing for a moment. After a few seconds, Snowbush is able to walk and a few warriors get the white warrior out of the dangerous situation. Larksong notes that the storm is over, but Alderheart dreads that the storm may have just begun.
