- Twigpaw thinks about how she and Violetpaw are going to be warriors, yet she is not happy—only numb. Dewpaw congratulates her and goes to get Finpaw, and Violetpaw mews her name. Twigpaw blinks, and her sister asks if she is pleased. She forces herself to sound happy, and adds that she had to get out. Violetpaw does not seem to hear her, and Twigpaw tells Hawkwing that she just needs some fresh air as she walks out of the camp. She crashes through the forest, wondering what is wrong with her and why she is not happy. Finpaw mews her name, and asks why she is not in the camp when her ceremony is soon. Twigpaw replies that she just needed some air, as the camp is so crowded. She tells Finpaw that she should go back soon, and he says that it must mean a lot to share a ceremony with her sister. Twigpaw thinks to herself that she always thought they would be in ThunderClan, and how Alderheart, Ivypool, and Lilyheart would not be there to see her become a warrior; she had not spoken to Lilyheart at the Gathering. Finpaw mews that she does not seem to be excited, and Twigpaw states that she is. Violetpaw beckons to her as she enters the camp; her sister is nervous and excited for the ceremony.
- Leafstar calls Violetpaw's name, and gives her the warrior name Violetshine in honor of her mother and her bright spirit. SkyClan—even the ShadowClan cats—call her new name, and Twigpaw tells herself that she wants Hawkwing to be proud. She pads forward, feeling sick as she looks at the SkyClan leader. Twigpaw rasps that she belongs to ThunderClan, and as the Clan grows silent, she continues that she wishes she felt like a SkyClan cat. She thinks about how she just wants to run back to ThunderClan's camp, but tells herself that she knows she has made up her mind this time. Leafstar angrily meows that she should have said so earlier, and to her surprise, Sandynose steps up. He states that he is proud she decided where she belonged after so much struggle. Leafstar grunts that Twigpaw wasted time, but Sandynose disagrees. Shame floods Twigpaw, and she glances at Finpaw. Leafstar turns away, saying that the ceremony is over.
- Hawkwing hurries to Twigpaw, meowing that she has been brave. Twigpaw sadly mews that she wanted to be with him and Violetpaw, but always missed ThunderClan. She hears Violetshine growl that she is leaving her, and Twigpaw is shocked, replying that she is still her sister. Violetshine angrily continues that she left her in ShadowClan, and is now leaving again for ThunderClan instead of staying with her. Twigpaw wishes that she could fix her sister's pain, and replies that she is not as happy in SkyClan. Violetshine hisses that she does not care, and asks why she can never be happy. The warrior then mumbles that she is sorry, adding that she just thought it would all be the way she dreamed of. Twigpaw states that she will always love her and Hawkwing, and her father soothes Violetshine. Guilt floods her, and Leafstar mews that she should return to ThunderClan. She thanks Leafstar, and hears whispers behind her as she leaves the camp. She then hears Finpaw calling to her, and begins that she is sorry. He instead replies that he is coming with her, and Twigpaw is shocked. He states that SkyClan will be fine without him, and he does not care where he is, as long as he is with her. Twigpaw is speechless, and her heart no longer seems so heavy as he follows her.
