Chapter description[]

Jayfeather follows Alderheart to the lake, telling him that even though prophecies can be frustrating, they will eventually become clear. Alderheart replies that Bramblestar is not doing anything, and they found SkyClan last time because Twigpaw disobeyed. Jayfeather states that their role is to pass on StarClan's messages, but Bramblestar must make the decisions and cannot panic at every issue. Alderheart thinks that Jayfeather will always defend the leader, and as they exit the trees, he sees Kestrelflight and Puddleshine by the shore. He hurries forward, and asks them what Harestar and Rowanstar said about the prophecy. Puddleshine replies that Rowanstar fears the dark sky is SkyClan, and has added more patrols. Alderheart exclaims that StarClan was happy about SkyClan's arrival, and Kestrelflight adds that the patrols will cause tension; Jayfeather tells Alderheart that he thought he wanted the prophecy to be taken seriously. Kestrelflight meows that Harestar fears that it is saying things are going to get even worse, and has added more patrols. Alderheart replies that at least Harestar is doing something, and Jayfeather remarks that half the Clans being on edge will definitely help. He then says that he cannot scent Leafpool, and Alderheart suggests going to SkyClan's camp.
Alderheart leads the medicine cats, wondering how Twigpaw is, and when they reach the camp, he apologizes for coming without warning. Jayfeather asks for Leafstar's thoughts on the prophecy, but the leader replies that she has been too busy. Leafpool excitedly greets Jayfeather and says that she forgot about the meeting; although Alderheart is annoyed, she and Jayfeather talk about Tinycloud's new litter. Kestrelflight and Puddleshine tell her that their two leaders have increased patrols, and she replies that SkyClan must take care of themselves first. Alderheart then sees Finpaw and Twigpaw, and they happily greet each other. He asks Twigpaw why she is still an apprentice, but Leafstar looks at him sternly, and the two apprentices bound away and resume their game of hiding a pinecone. Although Alderheart is glad that Twigpaw is happy, he is also sad that she does not miss ThunderClan more. Jayfeather states that they must inform Mistystar about the prophecy, but Leafpool says that she should stay since there is work to do. Puddleshine leads the medicine cats out of the camp, and Alderheart asks Jayfeather if RiverClan will stop them.
Jayfeather leads the medicine cats to RiverClan's camp, and Alderheart thinks about Mothwing and Willowshine. They then halt as a RiverClan patrol led by Duskfur stops them aggressively, and the medicine cats explain that they have news from StarClan, and it does not matter if the border is closed. Duskfur replies that her orders are to not let any cats into the territory, and Shimmerpelt says that they will not go to the camp. Duskfur and Sneezecloud growl that StarClan will tell them themselves, and when Kestrelflight criticizes RiverClan, Sneezecloud hisses that Onestar caused the Clans harm. The two patrols continue arguing, and Alderheart tells the medicine cats that they should leave. As they walk, he thinks about how he had not expected hostility, and they cannot let the Clans ignore StarClan again. However, the Clans not figured anything out: Rowanstar and Harestar have increased patrols, Leafstar is busy, and Bramblestar does not care. Alderheart wonders how he can make the leaders understand.
