Shadowsight returns to camp with a hunting patrol, carrying some other cat's catch. He feels shameful as he walks with them, but recalls that the other members had all been sympathetic towards him the entire time. However, he is unable to get past the feeling that without healing his Clanmates, he serves no purpose to them. He wonders how long it will be until he can return to medicine cat duties, remaining hopeful that ThunderClan and SkyClan can locate the Sisters, and in turn Bramblestar'sghost. Shadowsight's thoughts continue to trail as he remembers Bramblestar's death and that it'll be the reason he'll never be a medicine cat again. Lightleap appears and tries to cheer her brother up, but he feels as though it's all for pity's sake. He leaves to check on Ashfur in the hollow den.
Whitewing and Cherryfall alert Shadowsight to the fact that Ashfur has been sleeping all day, even while receiving prey. The tabby enters the den and tensely notices that the dark warrior is still resting. However, Ashfur wakes shortly after and questions Shadowsight's lack of herbs. The medicine cat states that he no longer needs them as he is healing well. The spirit inquires about the younger cat's hunting trip and he vaguely mentions the incident with the bee, shocking Shadowsight. Much to his surprise, Ashfur compliments his healing skills and apologizes for causing the Clans to mistrust him. At this, Shadowsight takes his leave and is left with an uneasy feeling as a result of the spirit's words.
Later on, Shadowsight trails after Puddleshine and Mothwing to the Moonpool. He notes that this is the first time since his attack, he has travelled to it and reflects on the discussion before being allowed to travel there. Jayfeather comments that the three are late, but Puddleshine brushes him off. There, the medicine cats discuss the fact that StarClan may be gone forever, much to some of their disbeliefs. Frecklewish suggests the connection between Ashfur and StarClan's disappearance and that he may be the only one able to restore them. Shadowsight mentions that Ashfur is able to leave Bramblestar's body, and while he tries to prove the fact, he is dismissed by the other medicine cats. The discussion ends, in favor of talking about the Clans and sick cats as Shadowsight realizes both Puddleshine and Mothwing hadn't informed him about whitecough in ShadowClan camp. He feels lonely, and questions if his Clanmates will ever trust him again. When it is mentioned he's been treating Ashfur, comments about the body belonging to Bramblestar arise and the tabby feels as though he is being blamed still for the crime. He comes to realize he is a medicine cat no Clan wants as they discuss Mothwing returning to RiverClan and Kestrelflight possibly taking on Whistlepaw as his apprentice. Kestrelflight's thoughts have the other medicine cats questioning if he should choose her without StarClan there to approve the decision. As they continue bicker, Shadowsight watches the Moonpool and wonders if the future of the Clans will entail them arguing over right and wrong.
