Chapter description[]
- Bristlefrost wakes up. Upon seeing her, Alderheart tells her to help Flamepaw and Baypaw while putting mouse bile on Brackenfur. She notes that every cat in ThunderClan is trying to keep themselves busy and that Daisy left to help Smoky with his newborn kits. Her thoughts go to Rootspring, and she wonders what the SkyClan tom is doing.
- When Spotfur needs moss, Bristlefrost offers to go, and heads out of camp. Lionblaze, Cherryfall, and Bumblestripe exit the thorn tunnel and meet her, the golden-furred deputy noting that cats should not be alone now that Ashfur can travel the forest whenever he wishes. Cherryfall brings up the topic of Ashfur, and states that they have to wait for the leaders to decide if they want to kill Bramblestar's body or not. Lionblaze says that Squirrelflight is not ready to make a decision, and is about to say something about her until Squirrelflight walks out of her den and asks him to finish his thought.
- After a moment of hesitation, the golden tom states that she's not a real leader, and that she needs StarClan's nine lives to become one. He says that after they kill Ashfur, StarClan might come back. Squirrelflight retorts that it's too risky to kill Bramblestar's body. Lionblaze responds by saying that doing nothing at all is a risk as well. Other ThunderClan warriors agree. Squirrelflight jumps onto the Highledge and gives a speech about ThunderClan bonding, and that they need to come together as one. Lionblaze brings up the fact that they might have to talk with the other leaders. Squirrelflight agrees with this, and says that she will listen to what the other leaders have to say.
- Bristlefrost notes that there is a lot of tension in ThunderClan because of the imposter situation and the five wandering cats. Bristlefrost contemplates leaving her birth Clan to find another home, in a better place. She remembers how Spotfur didn't want to have her kits in ThunderClan, and how Bramblestar and so many other important cats had left her Clan. Bristlefrost doesn't feel good, wondering if ThunderClan would ever be normal again. Bristlefrost wonders if Rootspring was right, that ThunderClan wouldn't recover from the loss of so many cats and the tension in the Clan.
