Darkstar is an ancient leader of RiverClan.

Darkstar is warned of ThunderClan intruding on Sunningrocks by Splashheart and Reedshine. Before Splashheart can plunge onto the banks, she tells him to wait. She says that she won't let ThunderClan get away with it, and then calls out an attack on them when they invade Sunningrocks. She plunges into the river, and races into battle, leaping at a dark brown cat and raking her claws on the cats ears. When it looks as though the battle is lost, she is seen carrying one of her wounded warriors, Reedshine, down the slope to the other side of the river.

She is enraged by the behavior of the ThunderClan cats, and orders her Clan to attack once more. When they protest, saying the battle is already lost, she replies that it is only lost when they stop fighting. She then speaks of their elders, and how they fought and died so that their Clan and kits could play on the Sunningrocks, and that they must keep fighting to honor them. Then, a tabby springs at Darkstar, but she sidesteps, spins around, and sinks her claws into the cat's back, making him crash to the ground. The battle is over after that.

After the battle, in which the RiverClan cats win, Darkstar summons her warriors to the center of the summit, and announces that they will take home prey to their youngest and eldest cats of the Clan, saying that this victory is for them, to the surprise of many cats. This leads to the third law of the warrior code: that kits and elders are to be fed before everyone else.
