Dart is part of a group of cats living in a park. As Twolegs destroy parts of the park, Dart is seen and heard, yowling for help from a cage along with Flutter and Shine. Although Ripple notices them, Arc states sadly that they can't help them. Ripple and Arc run before they are captured, despite Dart and the other cats still yowling for help.

As monsters and Twolegs destroy their home, Dart, Shine, and Flutter freeze in fear as monsters approach them. Twolegs capture them from behind, and Ripple longs to help his friends, but Arc insists it is too dangerous. As Ripple is swept away down the river and settles near an island, he strives to find a way to return to the park to save his friends.

Seasons later, Arc tells Riverstar that Dart had eventually escaped the Twolegs, but Shine chose to stay behind as a kittypet. When Riverstar, Drizzle, and Arc spy on Slash's camp, Riverstar spots his old friend Dart bring prey to a rogue only to be attacked. Finch later explains how Slash hurt Dart since Arc ran away to fetch help, but only because Dart stood up for Moth. Dart participates in the battle against Slash, attacking the rogue who nicked him days ago. After Slash's rogues are driven away, Dart and Magda help teach Grub and Sparrow how to meditate.
