Emberkit and her sister, Mosskit, are RiverClan kits. When Whitepaw, Leopardfur's apprentice, struggles with his training, Leopardfur wonders in frustration that the two kits would earn their warrior names before Whitepaw with his slow pace. When Oakheart leads a battle patrol to Sunningrocks to confront ThunderClan, Leopardfur orders her apprentice to change Birdsong's and Tanglewhisker's bedding and to ask Emberkit and the other kits to help him since they're almost apprentice-aged. After Oakheart's death, Emberpaw and her sister are named apprentices with Owlfur and Ottersplash as their mentors.

After Oakheart's vigil, Emberpaw and Mosspaw witness Leopardfur being named deputy. Leopardfur keeps a close eye on their training and stresses their mentors to focus on battle training. At a Gathering, Emberpaw and Mosspaw hurry to greet some ShadowClan apprentices. Two moons later, Emberpaw earns her warrior name of Emberdawn, and her sister is now Mosspelt. She joins a hunting patrol with Reedtail, Leopardfur, Frogleap, and Mosspelt. They spot a ShadowClan patrol hunting on their land, but Leopardfur stops her patrol from acting since Crookedstar had given Brokenstar permission to hunt on their lands. Emberdawn agrees and refers to WindClan's situation if they refused the ShadowClan leader. Further along the river, the patrol notices a Twoleg fishing on the shore and storing its catch in a nearby container. Despite Emberdawn's grumbling stomach, she suggests that they can hunt in the water meadows, but Leopardfur decides they should try and steal a fish. Emberdawn, Reedtail, and Mosspelt attack the Twoleg's flimsy den to distract it while Leopardfur and Frogleap steal a fish. The Twoleg chases off Emberdawn and the others with its long stick. Emberdawn is disappointed when Leopardfur orders them to not tell any cat how they stole the fish to prevent them from trying such a dangerous feat. The patrol carries the large salmon back to camp, but Crookedstar quickly discovers the truth.

Emberdawn and Beetlenose escort Nightpelt to RiverClan's camp. Her sister later gives birth to Frogleap's kits, Woodkit, Robinkit, and Dawnkit, though Woodkit and Robinkit drown in a flood. She and Vixenleap evacuate the camp when Leopardfur gives the orders to, and helps to round up their Clanmates. Silverstream steps from behind her when Fireheart and Graystripe bring two of Mistyfoot's kits to camp. Later, Emberdawn shares prey with Vixenleap and the pair discuss last night's Gathering with Leopardfur: Nightstar is now leader of ShadowClan, ThunderClan is sheltering Brokentail, and the alliance between WindClan and ThunderClan is now broken. Emberdawn remarks Crookedstar only supported ThunderClan last night because Fireheart and Graystripe are providing prey for the Clan, though Vixenleap flashes her an annoyed look. Emberdawn wonders why the ThunderClan toms are risking their pelts to aid RiverClan, though Leopardfur remarks they're just softhearted.

• Both this character and the other Emberdawn are named after Embers of a Winter Dawn (Emberdawn), a user on Kate's BlogClan. Kate explained through a private message that she inserted Emberdawn's name twice because she was afraid the editing team would remove her cameo, but to her delight, they didn't.
