"And then there were some characters who were waiting for their own endings, happy or not. Oh, how I have loved my doomed romances!" |
— Victoria Holmes in Erin Hunter's Confidential Notes 2: Unhappily Ever After? Ending the Doomed Romances |
Erin Hunter's Confidential Notes 2: Unhappily Ever After? Ending the Doomed Romances is the second of a series of three essays written by Victoria Holmes that was featured in the expanded edition of The Last Hope.[1]
Detailed summary[]
- Part of planning The Last Hope included tying up loose ends for romances, though Vicky is fond of her doomed romances, and she finds them much more enjoyable than the solid relationships such as Brackenfur and Sorreltail, and Dustpelt and Ferncloud.
- While Vicky did want Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight to properly reunite, she doubts if Brambleclaw could ever get over the lie that Squirrelflight told and speculates if he even would have gone along with her plan to raise Leafpool's kits if he was told the truth from the start. They were never going to get back together as mates, but Vicky knew they would be the perfect team as ThunderClan's newest leader and deputy. Leafpool and Crowfeather were never meant to have a happy ending either. However, Vicky knew that she had to give them a moment where Crowfeather explained that he had no regrets during the Great Battle.
- Lionblaze and Cinderheart were meant to be from the start, since Lionblaze helped to convince Cinderheart to choose her own destiny. Since her prior spirit Cinderpelt fell in love with Firestar but knew they could never be together, his grandson Lionblaze was Cinderheart's prize. For Jayfeather and Half Moon, Vicky admits that she may have had a moment of weakness when Half Moon reappeared in the prologue of The Last Hope. She knew that Half Moon would never give up on Jay's Wing, and she and Jayfeather will walk together in StarClan one day.
