Fallen Leaves is a scrawny,[6] sleek,[7] ginger-and-white patched[8] tom.[9] He has green eyes,[10] a white muzzle,[11] and small paws.[12]

Fallen Leaves was a member of the Ancients who drowned during his assessment to become a sharpclaw, the ancient equivalent of a warrior. His spirit remained wandering the tunnels for countless seasons after his family left to settle in the mountains as the Tribe of Rushing Water. He befriended Jayfeather, and later Hollyleaf when she ran away to live in the tunnels, eventually reuniting with his family in Tribe of Endless Hunting following her death.

He met Rock, the guardian of the Cave, but Fallen Leaves tragically drowned in the flooded tunnels and never emerged. His failure was marked by a half-mark on Rock's stick, discovered later by Jaypaw. His spirit remained trapped in the tunnels for seasons.

Why did Fallen Leaves' spirit remain in the tunnels? toggle section
Fallen Leaves' ghost refused to leave the tunnels because he was waiting for his mother, Broken Shadow, to find him after he failed his rite of passage to become a sharpclaw. He knew his place was to remain in the tunnels. However, Fallen Leaves left the tunnels to fight alongside Hollyleaf in the battle against the Dark Forest. He reunited with his mother's spirit and joined the Tribe of Endless Hunting.

How did Fallen Leaves' relationship with Jayfeather develop? toggle section
The bond between Fallen Leaves and Jayfeather is characterized by mutual understanding and support. Fallen Leaves first met Jaypaw when he was searching for three lost WindClan kits from the tunnels, and Fallen Leaves led the Clan apprentices to them. When Jaypaw dreamt in the tunnels with Fallen Leaves, he emerged into the time of the Ancients, Fallen Leaves' former group. Fallen Leaves regarded Jayfeather as a brother, pledging his assistance to Jayfeather whenever required, a promise he maintains even when Jayfeather attempts to persuade him to leave the tunnels.

Power of Three[]

"There were other cats in the caves. Spirits of the ancient cats who lived here seasons ago. One of them is called Fallen Leaves. He went down there in the ceremony to make him a warrior, and he never came out. He showed me where to find the lost kits."

Fallen Leaves is a softpaw, preparing to take his assessment to become a sharpclaw. He must journey into the tunnels and find his way back to the moor, and Fallen Leaves denies the coming of rain to Rock so his assessment is not delayed. The rain floods the tunnels, drowning the lost Fallen Leaves.
Seasons into the future, Jaypaw has repeated dreams of his death, and Fallen Leaves appears as a spirit in the tunnels, assisting him in finding the missing WindClan kits, Sedgekit, Swallowkit, and Thistlekit. Though Hollypaw, Lionpaw, Heatherpaw, and Breezepaw accompany Jaypaw, only he can see Fallen Leaves. Jaypaw further seeks him out, meeting him in the tunnels, but declines to stay, leaving Fallen Leaves alone once again.

He appears to Jayfeather along with Rock in a dream, but refuses to leave the tunnels. When Blossomfall and Ivypool get lost in the tunnels, Fallen Leaves attempts to direct them, but ultimately has Hollyleaf lead them out. He takes part in the battle against the Dark Forest, and is devastated when Hollyleaf is killed by Hawkfrost. However, he reunites with his mother, Broken Shadow, and the rest of the ancients, joining the Tribe of Endless Hunting.

In Hollyleaf's Story, Fallen Leaves encounters Hollyleaf when she is injured by a tunnel collapse, and nurses the she-cat back to health. Hollyleaf repeatedly questions him about his identity, though Fallen Leaves offers few answers. He gives her a tour of the tunnel system, and attempts to replicate Clan life by organizing tunnel patrols. Hollyleaf offers to help him find his family, but Fallen Leaves refuses to leave, believing his mother will come for him someday. Hollyleaf tells him all about ThunderClan, and Fallen Leaves sees that she misses them very much. He bids her farewell when she finally decides to return home.

  • Victoria Holmes has said that it is unknown if Fallen Leaves and Hollyleaf became mates in StarClan, despite their special bond, because it is not the sort of thing StarClan cats do.[15]
    • However, the Warriors website's family tree shows Hollyleaf and Fallen Leaves connected by a heart symbol, which is used for other characters to represent mateship.[16]

Mistakes[]

  • Fallen Leaves has been described with amber eyes[17] and blue eyes.[18]
  • He has mistakenly been called Falling Leaves.[19]
  • He was mistakenly described as a warrior, despite being a member of the Ancients.[20]
