"Yes, I'm a prey-hunter now. I'd love to take Flipclaw out, if that's okay with you, Graystripe."
— Feather asking permission to take Flipclaw hunting in Graystripe's Vow, page 122

Feather of Flying Hawk, more commonly known as Feather, is a stone-gray[1] tom.[3]

History[]

In The Broken Code arc[]

The Place of No Stars[]

After returning from his wander, Flipclaw mentions that he met Stormfur and his son, Feather, while visiting the Tribe, adding that Feather taught him about the Tribe's hunting techniques.

In the Super Editions[]

Graystripe's Vow[]

"And we're Feather of Flying Hawk and Breeze That Rustles the Leaves. It's great to meet you, Graystripe. Stormfur told us lots about you."
―Feather meeting Graystripe Graystripe's Vow, page 115
Graystripe and Flipclaw visit the Tribe on their wander, where they meet Stormfur and his kin. Stormfur introduces his kits, Lark, Pine, Feather, and Breeze to them. Feather tells Graystripe that it's great to finally meet him, as Stormfur told them a lot about his father. Graystripe realizes that the young group of cats standing before him are all his kin, and it feels wonderful for him. Afterwards, Feather, accompanied by his parents, escorts Graystripe and Flipclaw to the cave's fresh-kill pile.
Feather shares an eagle with Flipclaw, and Graystripe feels reassured that Flipclaw is okay. Later, Graystripe sees Feather and Flipclaw drinking from a pool of water dripping down among the rocks. When Flipclaw says that the Tribe is great, thinking they're like a Clan, except not worrying about the code, Feather points out that the Tribe has a code of their own. He adds the rogues that live farther down the mountain are a problem sometimes. Flipclaw informs Graystripe that Feather invited him to go hunting, and Feather says to Graystripe that he is a prey-hunter, asking if it's okay if the brown tabby can go with him. Graystripe replies by saying that Flipclaw is a warrior and doesn't need his permission, proud that the lively and proudly Feather is his kin. Feather questions him if it would hold up on his journey, and Graystripe answers that he and Flipclaw would stay for a day or two. Flipclaw is excited to go hunting with Feather and thanks Graystripe.
The next morning, Brook, Feather's mother, tells Graystripe that Feather took Flipclaw out with Pine and other prey-hunters. She asks if it was okay with him, and Graystripe replies that he told Feather the other night that Flipclaw doesn't need permission to go hunting. Later, Crest lets the Tribe of an emergency, and continues to tell the story to Stoneteller how Pine was climbing a slope to catch a rabbit, but he dislodged snow into an avalanche that fell upon Feather and Flipclaw, where Feather knew it was coming, but the gray tom tried to warn Flipclaw. She adds that Feather tried to thrust Flipclaw out of the way, but it was too late, both Feather and Flipclaw were buried. Graystripe, Stoneteller, Crest, Stormfur, and Brook head to where the snow buried Feather and Flipclaw. As they get to the scene, they see a gray tom unburied, later to be Feather. He reveals to them that he was buried, but only at the edge, and that Flipclaw is still underneath. Stoneteller gives order for Pine to stay with Feather and to watch for hawks.
Graystripe decides to leave the Tribe to continue his journey to the forest, and Stormfur tells him that he has kin in the Tribe, stating that he would be welcome in the Tribe. Stormfur adds that if it weren't for Brook and his kin, he might have come with his father. When asked if Flipclaw is coming with him, Graystripe doesn't think so, since Flipclaw was getting along very well with Feather. However, Flipclaw decides to head back to ThunderClan, missing his kin, but tells the gray elder that he thinks that the Tribe is great, especially Feather. Brook later tells Flipclaw that when he is ready to leave, Feather and Pine can go with him down the mountain.
On his way to go back home, Graystripe decides to venture back to the Tribe and spends one more night with Stormfur. His son asks him again to stay in the Tribe with his kin, as Graystripe could offer experience and wisdom; however, Graystripe is firm on his decision to return to ThunderClan, where he also has kin.

In the Novellas[]

Tawnypelt's Clan[]

"Yes. You met Breeze, and that's her littermate, Feather of Flying Hawk, over there."
―Stormfur introducing his kits to Tawnypelt Tawnypelt's Clan, chapter 6
Feather and his sister, Breeze, are Brook and Stormfur's second litter of kits, the younger siblings of Lark and Pine. When Stormfur speaks with Tawnypelt, he tells her that Breeze's littermate is Feather, and gestures to the other side of the cave where the young cat is practicing fighting moves with the other to-bes.

Relationships[]

Flipclaw[]

"I think the Tribe is great, especially Feather."
―Flipclaw about Feather to Graystripe Graystripe's Vow, page 155
The moment Feather met Flipclaw, the two toms were extremely close, sharing prey and wanting to hunt together. Flipclaw thought the Tribe was great, commenting how the Tribe is similar to the Clans, except they don't have to worry about the code. Feather replied that they have a similar code of their own. Feather invited Flipclaw to go hunting, asking Graystripe's permission, and Flipclaw was excited to go hunting with Feather.[4] While out on patrol alongside Feather, Pine, Lark, and some other prey-hunters, Crest came back to tell how Feather and Flipclaw were both buried. She added that Feather tried to thrust Flipclaw out of the way, but they were both buried. However, Flipclaw was still buried, but Feather managed to get out, and Feather became worried for Flipclaw.[5] It was thought that Flipclaw would stay in the Tribe with Feather, but after the unexpected landslide, this made Flipclaw become homesick. Flipclaw decided to leave the Tribe to go back to ThunderClan.[6]

Graystripe[]

"[Graystripe was] proud that the lively and yet respectful Feather was his kin."
―Graystripe thinking about Feather Graystripe's Vow, page 122
Feather first met Graystripe when the latter went to the mountains alongside Flipclaw. After introducing himself and his sister to Graystripe, he asked if he could take Flipclaw hunting, to which Graystripe responded that the stone-gray tom did not need his permission. Graystripe was proud that the lively and respectful Feather was his kin. Graystripe also was reassured when Flipclaw ate prey with Flipclaw.[4] The next morning, Brook asked Graystripe if it was okay that Feather took Flipclaw on patrol, but the gray elder replied that the brown tabby tom didn't need his permission. When he heard the news that Flipclaw and Feather were buried, he became panicked and was part of the rescue patrol. He found out that Feather was okay, but had some clotted soil in his fur, but Flipclaw was still buried.[5] Graystripe later bid farewell to Feather and the rest of his kin when he left the mountains to continue his wander.[6]

«Crest begun her story again, more calmly this time and with more detail. Pine had been scrambling up a slope in pursuit of a rabbit when his weight had dislodged a rock and brought down an avalanche of soil, grit, and pebbles. Feather had seen it coming, and had yowled a warning to Flipclaw, who was standing directly underneath the cascading stones.»
