- Firestar asks Sandstorm about Patchfoot's well-being. The ginger she-cat mentions his wound is infected. Firestar tries to motivate the warrior, but she shakes him off. Suddenly, Firestar and Sandstorm find Spottedleaf in the medicine den with them. She offers burdock root for the rat bites and assists Sandstorm in dressing the injured warrior's wounds. The two cats thank the late medicine cat, and Firestar claims he hasn't seen her since they left the forest. Sandstorm angrily berates Firestar for lying to her about Spottedleaf's visits in his dreams. Spottedleaf calms the she-cat's worries, and Firestar reassures her that he only loves Sandstorm. The StarClan cat leaves the two and retreats out of the den. Firestar and Sandstorm thank her, and they make a vow to trust each other.
- Firestar plans a battle exercise for the Clan. The cats plan for an overwatch on Skyrock as well as the Twoleg barn. Petal and Rainfur ask if they can train as warriors. After Sandstorm and Firestar finish organizing the patrols, he ends the meeting, and the cats leave for their respective posts. The two ThunderClan cats confide in each other and understand how important a medicine cat will be.
- Days pass after the patrols have been organized, and there has been no sign of rats. Firestar is lying in his nest and falls into a deep sleep. He quickly finds himself on Skyrock with Skywatcher standing behind him. The StarClan cat warns him of the near danger and attempts to motivate him to make SkyClan strong. Skywatcher mentions a cat who dreams of walking in the stars and that her path is leading towards SkyClan. He prods the leader to find the she-cat, and Firestar wakes up in his den. The leader excuses Sparrowpaw from his training to show him the Twolegplace. Firestar tells the young apprentice about his dream the night before, and they immediately leave for the Twolegplace.
- Sparrowpaw confides in the leader and asks why the rats are waiting. Firestar sympathizes with the tom while they pass his old Twoleg nest. The ginger tom tells Sparrowpaw that he also used to be a kittypet. They confess their struggles to each other and quicken their pace to find this mysterious cat. While cruising around the Twolegplace, Oscar taunts the cats. Sparrowpaw grows on edge, and Firestar wonders if he is the foretold medicine cat of SkyClan. Firestar explains his dreams with Skywatcher to Oscar, but he calls the tom mouse-brained. Suddenly, from behind the cats, Echo tells them she is who they're looking for.
