| "I never heard from the Clans again. They probably assumed that my kits and I died in the storm, and by then it was just as well. I wasn't the cat I used to be, and I'd found happiness in my new home. My love for Stripestar had been true, but I had let it go, along with Clan life and the duties of a leader—and my nine lives. I hardly ever thought of all that anymore. And one day, when my paws led me to the afterlife, I was glad to find myself not in StarClan, but in this wilderness among the ancestors of my wildcat family." |

Gale Rise is a sleek[15] black-and-white she-cat[16] with white paws,[17] dappled shoulders,[18] and sky-blue eyes.[19]
Gale Rise was the joint-leader of StormClan alongside her former mate, Stripestar. She was born in WindClan to Ripplegrass and an unnamed tom alongside her sister, Crowflight, as a direct descendant of Windstar. As an apprentice, Galepaw was mentored by Squirrelbrush and befriended Stripepaw, a fellow apprentice from ThunderClan, who shared her aspirations of what lies beyond the Highstones. After becoming a warrior, she succeeded Milkfur as WindClan's deputy. She eventually succeeded Swiftstar as WindClan's leader as Galestar. She appointed her best friend and mate Pebblenose as deputy, though the two eventually split when they were unable to conceive a litter. Galestar and Stripestar forged an alliance between their Clans to secure hunting rights at Sunningrocks, though they eventually fell in love and became mates. Insisting both Clans were stronger together, WindClan and ThunderClan merged into StormClan. However, StarClan rebuked the two for merging Clans, and their nine lives were revoked. StormClan struggled to coexist in separate camps, and Galestar delivered three stillborn kits.
StormClan left the forest to find a better home. For moons, StormClan wandered countryside but were frequently driven out by Twolegs, other predators, lack of prey, and the deaths of their Clanmates. Galestar and Stripestar began to bicker over their shared leadership, though the two rekindled their bond when Galestar learned she was expecting kits again. Galestar gave birth to Fogkit, Thrushkit, and Pebblekit at the sun-drown-place. When Stripestar finally revealed the warning of a dangerous storm from his dream long ago, Galestar lost her trust in Stripestar and refused to leave until the kits were stronger. However, the storm prompted them to leave, though Galestar and her kits were separated by StormClan. They were rescued by the wildcats in their camp, and Galestar and her kits were welcomed into the group. As the moons past, Galestar realized her true home was with the wildcats as Gale Rise. She and Bound Hunt went on to have a litter of four half-wildcat kittens: Ripple Purr, Wander Blink, Wish Yowl, and Run Pounce. After her death, Gale Rise joined the ancestors and learned to travel along the River of Spirits. She later sent a dream to Whistlepaw about StormClan so they could reunite two lost wildcats to their group as repayment for the wildcats' kindness. She and Stripestar reunited in StarClan.

StormClan's Folly[]
- "We have to keep going. There will be many troubles on our path—I do not doubt it. But nothing good comes without a struggle. We must fight for our future."
- ―Galestar to StormClan StormClan's Folly, page 128
- Galestar and Stripestar meet in secret at Fourtrees. They agree to end their alliance but to remain friends. However, their feelings morph into love, and the two soon become mates with Galestar expecting a litter of kits. Both are fearful of what everyone else will think of their love, and Stripestar posits the idea of merging Clans so both Clans can be stronger together. Galestar and Stripestar propose the idea to their Clanmates as StormClan. They are initially hesitant, until Pebblenose interprets Galestar's pregnancy as a sign of StarClan's approval. Three days later, Stripestar, Galestar, Goldenleaf, Stoneflower, and Kestrelwing visit the Moonstone to ask for StarClan's blessing. Instead, the Clan founders rebuke them for their foolishness and revoke their nine lives as punishment for turning away from StarClan. RiverClan and ShadowClan are dismayed at Galestar and Stripestar's decision to continue with StormClan despite their ancestors' adamant disapproval.
- StormClan moves into ThunderClan's camp, though the cats are beginning to quarrel about the lack of space. Twolegs cause a fire to ignite in the forest, prompting a ragged evacuation when the former ThunderClan cats listen to Stripestar instead of Galestar. During the evacuation, Galestar delivers her kits, but the three are stillborn. Some cats interpret this as a sign from StarClan of StormClan's doomed future. StormClan settles in WindClan's old camp, which only prompts further disagreements between the warriors. Galestar's idea to rebuild the ThunderClan camp falters when they find mostly burned debris, and the Clan soon grows hungry from the lack of prey. RiverClan and ShadowClan refuse to share, prompting Galestar and Stripestar to lead their Clan beyond the forest to search for a new home.
- StormClan heads away from Highstones, though Galestar and Stripestar struggle to corral a large group. Kestrelwing's death while crossing the Thunderpath, Petalstep's depature, and Rosebush's death in the mountains cause several cats to openly doubt Galestar and Stripestar's dream, but the two leaders urge their warriors to press on in their memory. They encounter the Tribe and Stoneteller, who urges them to avoid the lake without an end and to heed a warning from a fish with legs. Pebblenose and Thrushcall decide to stay with the Tribe, betraying Galestar's heart. After leaving the mountains, StormClan settles for the night besides a strange pool. Galestar notices that Stripestar experiences a terrible dream that night, but he lies when she presses about it. The group is chased by a dog the following morning. They eventually settle in an abandoned Twoleg nests, Galestar and Stripestar rekindle their bond over their lost kits, whom they never got to properly grieve over. During leaf-bare, Galestar feels conflicted when Huntheart and Fernwhisper announce they are expecting kits. A few moons later, StormClan is forced to leave the den when Twolegs reclaim it.
- StormClan temporarily settles near a swamp, and Galestar and Stripestar begin to argue over their decisions. Galestar grows especially frustrated when Stripestar seems to prioritize his former ThunderClan cats instead of being an united Clan. She finally snaps at him, though Stripestar insists that he knows he can trust his former ThunderClan Clanmates as he's known them since he was a kit. She attempts to convince Stripestar that they should leave the swamp, as every cat is miserable, and Galestar snaps at Stripestar and Tinyclaw for always shutting down her ideas. After the camp is attacked by a strange creature, Galestar finally convinces Stripestar that they should leave the marsh towards the fox-head mountain. StormClan settles on top of the fox-head mountain, but as the moons turn to greenleaf, the mountain top turns into an inhospitable environment. However, after Rainkit is taken by a hawk, several StormClan cats lose their faith in Galestar and Stripestar and wish to return to the forest. Galestar agrees that they will return to the forest in the morning.
- During their journey back to the forest, Galestar learns she is expecting kits again. However, Goldenleaf receives a vision from Kestrelwing that they should head towards the lake that never ends by following the setting sun. StormClan instead agrees to follow the setting sun. They arrive at the sun-drown-place during leaf-fall, though it turns out to be a desolate place to live. Galestar and Stripestar agree that they should leave, though Galestar soon gives birth to their kits: Pebblekit, Fogkit, and Thrushkit. Later, Stripestar realizes that dreams from moons ago were warning him of a dangerous storm. Galestaris furious that Stripestar kept his dream a secret from her and all of his lies. Feeling betrayed, she refuses to leave since the kits are still young. However, the storm worsens, prompting StormClan to flee in the torrential rain. After taking shelter underneath a rock ledge for two days, StormClan leaves the sun-drown-place. The storm abruptly breaks again, and Galestar and her kits are trapped in a cavern. After desperately searching and believing Galestar and the kits to be deceased, StormClan leaves for the forest.
- Galestar and her kits are rescued by Bound Hunt, Hunt Fly, and Whisper Groom, three wildcats, who take them to their camp. However, Galestar scolds herself for trusting the wildcats too quickly when she oversleeps and another storm washes away StormClan's scent. After searching for a moon, Galestar finally relents that her Clanmates have left her behind. Eventually, Galestar and her kits join the wildcats. Her kits are appointed a spirit guide and given new names: Thrush Roll, Fog Nuzzle, and Pebble Lunge. To Galestar's surprise, another ancestor agrees to be her guardian, Rise Stretch, and he names her Gale Rise.
- As the moons turn to leaf-bare, Galestar is pleased that her kits have grown accustomed to the wildcats' culture. However, Galestar still feels conflicted; part of her wishes to return to the Clans and she refuses to use her wildcat name. Her kits are later named prowlers, full members of the group. After the ceremony, Rise Stretch shows Galestar that her journey has only begun. He shows her a vision of the future, including a litter of four part wildcat kittens. That night at the full moon, Galestar decides to stay with the wildcats as Bound Hunt's mate, now going by her true name, Gale Rise.
Ivypool's Heart[]
- Galestar: "[...] Pounce, Stretch, and Hunt deserve better. They deserve to be raised among their kin. You Clan cats must convince them to escape, and then help them do it."
- Ivypool: "Pounce, Stretch, and Hunt? You already know what the kits will be called?"
- Ivypool's Heart, page 231
- After entering the Star Tree, Ivypool, Icewing, Whistlepaw, and Rootspring meet Galestar, a regular cat among the wildcat ancestors. Galestar had sent Whistlepaw the vision of the kits in danger, and she delves into the tragic story of StormClan, a long forgotten piece of Clan history. She and the ThunderClan leader Stripestar fell in love and decided to unite their Clans so they could be together. Eventually, StormClan left the forest when the other Clans accused them of the prey shortage. StormClan tried numerous times to find a new home, but they were threatened by predators, Twolegs, and severe weather. Galestar and Stripestar's relationship began to deteriorate, until Galestar learned she was expecting his kits.
- Galestar gave birth to three kits at their temporary camp near the sun-drown-place. ThunderClan's former cats were restless to continue moving and find a permanent home before leaf-bare. Stripestar agreed with his former warriors, and StormClan left their temporary camp. However, Galestar and her kits became separated in a strong storm, taking shelter in a crevice near the water. A rockslide blocked their entrance, trapping Galestar and her family. StormClan eventually moved on; the former StormClan co-leader resents Stripestar for siding with his Clan and abandoning her by the rocks. Whistlepaw insists that she saw Stripestar attempting to find them in her vision, but Galestar still wonders why he did not come back. Galestar continues, explaining how they were eventually rescued by a strange group of wildcats. Despite her hesitation, the wildcats were friendly, and Galestar eventually gave up trying to find her Clanmates. She fell in love with a wildcat tom, Bound Hunt, and they raised her kits together. She eventually had a litter of half-cat half-wildcat kits with him, and her kits with Stripestar had families of their own among the wildcats. Galestar explains how she gave Whistlepaw the vision so the Clans could repay the kindness the wildcats had shown her by rescuing Tumble Leap, Stalk Purr, and their unborn kits and reuniting them with the wildcats.
- To convince Tumble Leap and Stalk Purr that they saw Galestar in a dream, Icewing tells the wildcats the names of their unborn kits and that the Twoleg plans on giving them away. The wildcats are familiar with Galestar's story, believing the Clan cats. On their journey to find the wildcats, Icewing elaborates more on Galestar's story to Tumble Leap and Stalk Purr, who note that they grew up hearing her story. When they meet the wildcat group, the wildcats are surprised to learn that they know of Galestar. However, when Icewing and Ivypool explain their story to the group's elders, Prowl Sleek, Spring Claw, and Hunt Growl refuse to accept Tumble Leap and Stalk Purr because of how the Clans abandoned Galestar.
- After gaining permission from their ancestors to accept Tumble Leap, Stalk Purr, and their kits, the elders guide Ivypool and Icewing to a tree similar to the Star Tree to enter the ancestors' hunting grounds. They reunite with Galestar; Icewing and Ivypool encourage Galestar to visit StarClan so she could revive Stripestar's long forgotten spirit to force the Clans to remember the legacy of StormClan. Galestar is hesitant to reunite with her former mate, but she eventually agrees, and she guides the Clan cats down the River of Spirits to StarClan's hunting grounds. In StarClan, Galestar explains her story to Thunderstar, Windstar, Riverstar, Mistystar, Ferncloud, and Tallstar, who have no recollection of StormClan. As Galestar speaks, the spirits of the long-forgotten StormClan ancestors materialize, including Stripestar. Galestar angrily confronts her former mate for abandoning them, but Stripestar insists that he did all he could to try to find them. StormClan's ancestors warmly greet Galestar as they apologize for leaving her.

Personality[]
- «Then [Stripestar's] gaze fell on Galestar, so full of passion, facing these legendary cats without even blinking. Out of nowhere, anger flickered in his belly. She's as great as they are. Perhaps even greater. And he couldn't let her down.»

Relationships[]
Stripestar[]
- "It's hard to know that you loved another cat. I loved you so much, and I never got to see my kits grow up. But I'm glad, too. I couldn't bear the thought that you and our kits had suffered and died because I couldn't save you. None of StormClan could."
- ―Stripestar to Galestar Ivypool's Heart, page 354
- After Galestar and her new kits got separated from Stripestar in a storm, Galestar resented her mate, believing that he had abandoned his family. She thought that Stripestar had done so to gain power of StormClan for himself, and that he deserved to go to the Dark Forest.[29] When Galestar and her kits were taken in by the wildcats, she moved on, becoming mates with Bound Hunt.[30] They eventually reunited in StarClan.[29]
StormClan[]
- «As he spoke, more wispy shapes appeared and gradually took solid form until they emerged as complete ancestral spirits of StarClan. Ivypool realized that they were all StormClan cats. They crowded around Galestar, licking her and pressing close to her as they told her how sorry they were, and how guilty they had felt since she had been lost to them.»

The wildcats[]
- "And you expect that to win our confidence? We respect Galestar as one of our ancestors, but we have no reason to respect StormClan. They abandoned Galestar. They left her and her kits to die."

Quotes[]
- Pebblenose: "Galestar! No cat thinks that. StarClan did not make a mistake. And your rise to leader was no accident! Let me help you see what others see clearly. You have always been wise, and strong, and kind. You have always had the qualities of a good leader—a great leader—and you are only suffering now because you have a good heart. You hate to shed blood—as any wise leader should! But what happened to Fogdrift was not your fault. Do you hear me? You were defending yourself and your Clan. And when she lay stricken, did you not try to save her?"
- Galestar: "I tried. And failed."
- StormClan's Folly, pages 28-29
- "There are five Clans no longer. SkyClan has already left the forest! Without them, there is no balance. And yet the Clans have been thriving—the ones that remain. We achieved all that, together. What harm can it bring to join forces, then?"
- ―Galestar to StarClan StormClan's Folly, page 73
- Stripestar: "Let me explain. It was the night we slept beside the pool of water—the one the medicine cats told us was...special. I had a dream that wasn't a dream. It was a warning, I'm sure of it. Now the dream's coming true, and—"
- Galestar: "Wait. I remember that night. I knew something was wrong. And I asked you what had happened, but you wouldn't answer me. Now you're trying to tell me you had a dream that warned us something terrible was going to happen. You had it moons ago. And you kept it to yourself?"
- I didn't!"
- Oh, that's right...it's even worse. You told Tinyclaw! Your old friend from ThunderClan. But you didn't tell me, did you? Your mate. The leader of StormClan. And everything that's happened since then...Mudsplash, and Rainkit, all this pain and suffering...Now I find out we could have turned back and avoided it all! Stars above! Why in the name of Silverpelt didn't you tell me, Stripestar?"
- I didn't know if the dream really meant anything. Not for sure...And I was going to tell you, I swear it. As soon as I saw any of the signs from the dream in the waking world, that's when I planned to—"
- You deceived me. And now you think I'll roll over so you can have your way? I don't think so."
- But—"
- No! My kits are too small to leave now. They're still nursing! I won't put them in danger because of your foolishness. We stay."
- But you don't understand...It's for the kits that I'm doing this. I'm worried about them, Galestar. Please...we have to leave before something terrible happens. While the Clan will still follow us. While we still have a Clan."
- You're asking my permission now, are you? If you'd shared your secrets with me, Stripestar, you wouldn't have to. Do what you like. But I won't lead our Clan away from this place because of some dream you had so long ago. A dream you kept to yourself. I'm going to wait until my kits are strong enough to travel."
- StormClan's Folly, pages 332-333
- «I've never felt so cared for. I've never felt so loved. But this...This is what a home feels like.»
- —Galestar's thoughts about joining the wildcats StormClan's Folly, page 398
- Icewing: "Perhaps you need to face your pain. Once you accept what happened, instead of just trying to pretend that it's all over with, you'll probably feel better."
- Galestar: "How am I supposed to do that? All the cats who were involved are long dead. Even StormClan doesn't seem to exist anymore."
