— Gorse to the mountain cats in Thunder Rising, page 66 |
Gorsestar is a wiry[8] gray tabby tom[9] with green eyes,[10] a long tail,[11] and spiky head fur.[7]
Gorsestar was the second leader of WindClan, succeeding Windstar. When the mountain cats first arrived at the forest territories, the pair of loners Gorse and his mate Wind were initially hostile towards them. They eventually began hunting with the cats that settled on the moor and befriended them. Gorse and Wind naturally become a part of the group, and changed their names to Gorse Fur and Wind Runner to fit in. Wind Runner later gave birth to Gorse Fur’s kits: Morning Whisker, Dust Muzzle, Moth Flight, and Emberkit. However, Morning Whisker and Emberkit died, and Gorse Fur and his mate grieved for their lost kits.
Following the devastation of the Great Battle, he and his family split off into their own group on the moor in order to acquire space away from the other groups. Gorse Fur became Windstar's deputy after she received her nine lives and was made leader, and he later became the second WindClan leader after she lost her last life. Gorsestar's intelligence, patience, and bravery helped him become one of WindClan's most significant leaders to date. After his death, he ascended to StarClan, where Gorsestar granted Onestar and Harestar one of their nine lives.

However, Emberkit dies and he and Wind Runner share in their grief, but he gives Wind Runner the strength and comfort to keep going despite their loss. He is furious at Clear Sky after the deaths of Misty and Bumble, and participates in the Great Battle, swearing to protect Wind Runner. He and Wind Runner are briefly reunited with Emberkit when spirit cats descend from the sky.
- After the death of Morning Whisker to sickness, the pair leads their family to form their own group on the moor. He and Wind Runner briefly assist the other groups to defeat One Eye. They welcome others into their group, and train with the other groups in preparation for the battle with Slash. After Bee's betrayal, he travels to Clear Sky's camp to warn him about the others.

Interesting facts[]
Mistakes[]
- He is mistakenly shown with amber eyes and without his spiky head fur in The Ultimate Guide.[44]
- He is mistakenly called 'Gorse' after being renamed Gorse Fur.[45]
Continuity[]
The following information is from sources considered non-canon, retconned, or from adapted material.
- In Secrets of the Clans, a 2007 field guide, he is originally known as Gorsefur and he is the second leader of WindClan, and the deputy to Windstar. Gorsestar is mentioned as one of WindClan's significant leaders, remembered for his bravery and devotion to Windstar.[46] When Mothflight is being drawn towards Highstones and wanders onto a Thunderpath, Gorsefur dashes across it to the other side before a monster could hit them, and Windstar is furious.[47]
- Furthermore, his and Windstar's descendants live on in WindClan through Ashfoot and Crowfeather.[46]

- Thunder Rising, page 204
