Chapter description[]
- Graystripe tells Stormfur that he has to leave the mountains. Stormfur is hurt by that, and questions why. Graystripe is tempted to stay in the Tribe, but eventually he says no. He explains that he has to go to the Moonstone because he had a sign from Feathertail. Graystripe explains to him that if he reaches Moonstone, he can try to connect to StarClan again. Stormfur is still confused, but Graystripe tries again to explain more. Eventually, he sees understanding in Stormfur's eyes. The tom then wishes Graystripe luck on his journey.
- Stormfur asks if Flipclaw will want to join him on his journey, but Graystripe said he thinks he wouldn't want to. Graystripe says he might even want to stay at the Tribe, because he likes it here, and he has made friends. They went over to ask the tom, and he says he wants to return to his Clan instead of staying at the Tribe. Graystripe then tells him to be careful on his journey home, and Flipclaw says he would. Afterwards, Graystripe then says goodbye to the Tribe, and he thanks them for their hospitality. After that, he says his last goodbyes to Flipclaw, and made his way away from the mountains.
- Several sunrises later, he is navigating through woodland, making his way toward the Moonstone. His thoughts drift toward Millie, and he thinks about how she discovered him, and saved him moons ago. He thinks about how determined she was navigating through unknown territories. Since his stay at the mountains, he has been wary of the rogue who had been asking about him. Next, he hunts for prey, and catches a mouse. Then, he goes to the edge of the woods, and finds a view of his old home.
- As Graystripe nears his destination, he tries crossing a Thunderpath and starts to cross. Half way to saftey, he freezes as a monster drove straight toward him. At the last moment, he escaped, and walked to safety. The Twolegs that were in the monster emerge, and look for him. The danger reminds him of Millie, and that gives him some determination and hope. The Twolegs eventually turn away, and Graystripe slides out of hiding and flees.
