Chapter description[]

Graystripe is on his way to the Highstones, having the feeling that he is being watched. He suddenly shouts, asking who is there. Graystripe states that he is a fully-trained warrior. Monkeystar, Clawwhistle, Bigteeth, Bugeater, Chester, and Fireface appear. He is annoyed, but realizes that he taught them to stalk him too well, now feeling amused as they had stalked him all the way from the river.
Monkeystar apologizes, stating that she and the rest of WarriorClan really wanted to know where the Moonstone was. She tells Graystripe that their housefolk are used to them disappearing for two days or so, and they even spoil them with extra treats and such. Graystripe explains why they can't come, stating that the Moonstone is only for medicine cats and leaders, and he isn't even supposed to go, but he has to for an emergency. Clawwhistle asks for what the emergency was, but Graystripe realizes that WarriorClan believes being a warrior was only hunting and fighting, so he dismisses it. Monkeystar and the others convince the elder to let them come to stand guard for him, and he accepts.
The cats encounter a Thunderpath, and Bigteeth comments that the kittypets know about these, as monsters aren't dangerous if they are dealt with properly. By the tom's comment, Graystripe recalls the Thunderpath near ThunderClan territory. Graystripe shows them how they cross it like warriors. After crossing, the WarriorClan cats find it fun, and want to do it again. Graystripe tells them that they will when they come back. Monkeystar points out that since WarriorClan is with the elder, they can help deal with threats on the quest. Graystripe thinks that he hadn't thought of it as a quest, but he admits that it was. Graystripe detects a cat.
Graystripe introduces himself, stating that they don't want to fight after Monkeystar abruptly states that she does. The cat replies that he is looking for someone named Graystripe. This stuns Graystripe, as he wonders why any cat would be looking for him there, of all places. He asks if he knows the newcomer. The newcomer states that Graystripe knew Gremlin, his mother. Graystripe's emotions get the better of him, as he remembers who Gremlin is, staggering. The newcomer explains that Gremlin told him that Graystripe made a vow to her a long time ago. The newcomer asks if that vow extends to her kits, as he needs help.
