Chapter description[]
- Graystripe and Flipclaw trek up the slope that leads to the Tribe's mountains. Graystripe thinks about going back to ThunderClan and asking for directions, but he dismisses it. He looks forward to meeting Stormfur and his mate Brook. Graystripe warns Flipclaw to stay away from the edge of the mountain. Flipclaw admits that he will, and happily tells Graystripe that he will tell Bristlefrost and Thriftear about his experiences. This causes Graystripe to think that Flipclaw was planning on returning to his Clan.
- Graystripe warns the younger tom to keep his voice down as the Tribe had had problems with rogues before, and they were intruding the Tribe's territory. Graystripe stops Flipclaw, and tells him that they have to leap across a big gap. A voice tells them that they are not allowed unless they say. Another cat appears, and a she-cat asks him who he is. Graystripe introduces himself, and states that he is looking for his son, Stormfur. At this mention, the cats happily conclude that he must be a Clan cat by the lake, and they introduce themselves as Moon Shining on Water and Thorn That Grows in Cleft. Flipclaw also introduces himself. The Tribe cats escort Graystripe and Flipclaw to the cave.
- They enter the cave, and Stormfur, eyes wavering in disbelief, asks if Graystripe is really here, and Graystripe confirms. Brook greets the journeying cats, and her kits. Graystripe introduces Flipclaw, and Brook asks if the two are kin. While Graystripe is lost in his thoughts, Flipclaw responds by saying that he is Lionblaze's kin, and they might remember him as Lionpaw. Stormfur informs the ThunderClan elder that a rogue had met some prey-hunters and asked for Graystripe. The two toms wonder about why the rogue needed him.
- At this moment, Stoneteller greets Graystripe. He tells the journeying cats to eat and rest, and Graystripe and Stormfur share prey. The two cats wonder what afterlife Feathertail would reside in, as Leafpool had told them that she resides in both StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting. At a pool of water, Flipclaw tells Graystripe that the Tribe life is great, and this causes Graystripe to wonder if Flipclaw preferred Tribe life over Clan life.
- Brook tells Flipclaw and Graystripe that she has prepared their bedding, and the two journeying cats go to sleep. Graystripe sees Stoneteller, and has an urge to pretend that he is sleeping, but realizes that he needs to talk to the wise leader. As he is not getting sleep, Graystripe pushes himself to talk to Stoneteller.
