Gremlin is a patchy black, white, and tortoiseshell she-cat with green eyes.

Gremlin was a member of BloodClan, serving under Scourge's, Claw's, and Fury's leaderships. She and her brother, Scraps, joined BloodClan after leaving their Twolegs when their kit abused the pair. However, Gremlin grew unhappy with BloodClan and after becoming an expectant mother, feared for her kits' futures. She betrayed her Clan to Graystripe and ThunderClan, and left BloodClan to become a kittypet again. She lived with Petunia and her Twoleg, and gave birth to her son, Honeysuckle. However, their Twoleg became sick and started acquiring more cats, keeping them in filthy conditions. Gremlin became sick herself and inevitably succumbed to her illness. In death, she visited Petunia at the Moonstone to give her much needed guidance.

As an expecting queen and a member of BloodClan, Gremlin is terrified and does not want her kits to be taken from her to be trained to fight shortly after birth. BloodClan's cruel leader, Fury, forces her to fight in battles while pregnant, which further endangers her and her kits. Desperate to find a peaceful alternative way of life for herself and her brother, Scraps, Gremlin seeks the help of Graystripe, the acting leader of ThunderClan. She has been watching him and his Clanmates for some time and thinks ThunderClan will be a safer place for her family. She offers Graystripe crucial information about an upcoming attack BloodClan is planning against ThunderClan in exchange for a place in the Clan as a queen and a place for her brother as well. Graystripe, although hesitant at first to trust her, gives into his instincts and makes the deal with her, allowing her to join ThunderClan until Firestar returns and decides for himself whether they can stay.

Gremlin provides the information that helps prepare ThunderClan for the attack, just as she said she would. The battle occurs and Fury outs her as a traitor. However, when Graystripe attacks Snake and tries to kill him for dragging Gremlin away, Fury threatens to kill Gremlin if Graystripe goes through with the killing bite. Graystripe refrains and Gremlin is left alive. Graystripe lets Gremlin stay under Cinderpelt's care, but ultimately Gremlin decides that being a warrior is too dangerous after the battle and her brother's death and leaves to become a kittypet. Graystripe and his Clanmates are saddened by her choice but they know she has to make the best decision for her kits. Graystripe tells her that she always has a place in ThunderClan if she wants it.

Gremlin and her kits are taken in by a kind old Twoleg. However, the Twoleg becomes old and sick, and she begins neglecting her cats. The number of cats in the Twoleg's den grows but the food and space decreases over time. Gremlin tells her kits stories about BloodClan and Graystripe and the kindness of ThunderClan. Gremlin succumbs to sickness, but her son, Fang, honors her memory by trying to find Graystripe to help save all the cats in the Twoleg den.

In the comic, Gremlin's spirit visits Petunia at the Moonstone. Petunia is overjoyed at seeing her old friend and asks how Marigold is, and Gremlin tells her Marigold is with her. She also tells Petunia that her Twoleg is not hurting anymore and is happy now. Petunia feels an overwhelming sense of peace at these pieces of news and Gremlin tells her that she can now be happy too and focus on only her Clanmates.
