"Sparrow and Grub, two of Slash's rogues who'd come creeping nervously back to the park cats' camp after the others had fled and begged to be taken in, were arguing over a Twoleg scrap they'd found. The park cats hadn't been eager to let them join in, but Arc had insisted. No cat is irredeemable, he'd said. The rogues seemed easygoing, if a little surly. But they still refused to join in with the daily meditations led by Arc, preferring to prowl through the forest or explore the edges of the Twolegplace. They always returned reeking of some new foul smell, as though they were learning about their new home stench by smell."

In Riverstar's Home, Grub is a member of Slash's group. They and their fellow rogues take over the Cats of the Park's territory. When Arc and Riverstar led a battle against Slash and his rogues, Grub participated in the fight and fled with the others. A few days later, Grub and Sparrow return and ask to join the park cats. At first, Grub is hesitant to join in on their traditional meditations, and the two cats prefer scavenging in the Twolegplace. Grub and Sparrow soon slowly acclimate to their new group, with Magda and Dart helping them meditate as mentors. Grub later helps to weave the camp wall with Moth and Squirrel.
