In the Dawn of the Clans arc
- Half Moon is first seen near the back of a cavern, and despite her age, it is noted that her eyes are clear and deep with wisdom as her gaze travels over the skinny cats. She whispers to herself that they cannot go on like this. Nearby, a mother scolds a kit who refuses to share prey with an elder which draws a sigh from Half Moon, though she is out of earshot to hear what the mother had said. Thinking about how every cat is coming to the end of what they can bear, Half Moon watches as the elder that the kit had argued with drops an eagle bone in front of another elder. She is soon after distracted by the talking elders as a group of cats arrive at the entrance of the cave.
- Half Moon watches them, then turns her head upon realization that a cat is padding up to her. He greets her, settling down beside her and wrapping his tail around his paws. Half Moon releases a purr of amusement, identifying the tom as Lion's Roar, and protesting that he should not call her Half Moon, as she has been the Teller of the Pointed Stones for many seasons. In response, Lion's Roar sniffs, stating that he does not care how long others have called her Stoneteller, as she will always be Half Moon, to him. Making no reply, Half Moon extends her tail to rest it on her friend's shoulder. Lion's Roar goes on to tell how his mother, Shy Fawn, had told him about a time before the group went to the mountains, in which Half Moon sighs faintly. She meows that she is the only cat left who remembers the lake, and the journey that had been made to come to the mountains. Adding that she has lived three times as many moons in the mountains than beside the lake, Half Moon says that the rushing of the waterfall echoes in her heart.
- Pausing, Half Moon blinks, asking Lion's Roar why he was telling her the story, currently. The tom hesitates, then goes on to say that hunger would kill them all before the sun shone again and that something must be done. Half Moon's eyes stretch wide, gazing at Lion's Roar. She protests that they cannot leave the mountains, voice breathless with shock, since Jay's Wing had promised it was their destined home. Lion's Roar meets her intense eyes, asking Half Moon is she is sure that Jay's Wing was right, asking how he could know what was going to happen in the future. Half Moon murmurs that he had to be right, her mind flying back to the ceremony in which she had been named Stoneteller. She shivers, recalling his voice once more, full of grief that her destiny meant they would never be together. Half Moon proceeds to think about how he would have never performed the ceremony if he did not mean for them to stay.
- Allowing her gaze to drift over the other cats, thin and hungry, Half Moon shakes her head sadly, and agrees that Lion's Roar is right- something must be done if they are to survive. Slowly, Half Moon realizes that the cold gray light in the cave is brightening, though she knows night is falling. Half Moon thinks about how no cat sees the light, except her, and wonders what it means. In the light, Half Moon remembers how Jay's Wing had said that her ancestors would guide her in the decisions she makes, and how strange things might have more meaning. Possible reasons for the light rush through Half Moon's head, pondering that warm weather might come early, but she wonders if the sun is really shining somewhere else, with prey and shelter. The sunlight grows stronger, until Half Moon can barely look into the rays, and she relaxes as a new idea rises in her mind.
- She agrees that perhaps Lion's Roar is right, and only a few cats belong in the mountains. Half Moon thinks that maybe some of the other cats can travel toward the place where the sun rises, to make a new home in the brightest light of all- safe and well-fed, with room to nurture future generations. As she basks herself in the warmth of the sunlight, Half Moon finds the certainty she needed. Forming an idea that some cats will remain in the mountains, and others will find a journey, Half Moon claims mentally that she will not leave the cave, and that she will possibly find Jay's Wing again.
- Gray Wing, after talking to Silver Frost, is grateful when he sees Half Moon approach, taking a winding path among her cats. She pauses to speak to each one, and though her paws are not stable due to her age, Gray Wing can identify the depth of experience in her eyes, along with the care she felt for each cat in her Tribe. She murmurs to Snow Hare that there is still a bit of hawk left, telling her that she should eat something. When Snow Hare pauses, replying that she is leaving food for the young cats, as they need their strength for hunting, Half Moon bends her head, touching the elder's ear with her nose, and says that she has earned her food numerous times over.
- When Lion's Roar comments that perhaps the mountains have fed them for long enough, Half Moon gives him a swift glance, full of meaning. Soon after, an announcement is made by Shaded Moss, who yowls that all cats must be silent, as Half Moon is about to speak. Standing at the far end of the cavern, beside the boulder Shaded Moss is standing on, Half Moon is said to appear even more fragile next to the tom's powerful frame. Silver Frost suggests that maybe Half Moon is going to appoint Shaded Moss as her replacement, causing Snow Hare to agree, adding that it is what they all have been expecting for moons. Gray Wing settles himself next to Clear Sky and Bright Stream, and looks up at Half Moon, who rises to her paws, letting her gaze travel over her Tribe until the murmuring dies down.
- She begins that she is grateful to all of them for working so hard to survive in the mountains, her voice faint enough that it could scarcely be heard over the waterfall's sound. Half Moon announces that she is proud to be their Healer, and that she has to accept that there are things that even she cannot control, as lack of space and food are beyond her control. Silver Frost calls out that it is not her fault, and that she should not give up. Half Moon dips her head to acknowledge the elder's support, and continues that their home cannot support them all, but she knows there is another place for some of them, claiming she has seen it in her dreams. Silence greets her words, and Gray Wing finds difficulty grasping sense of what she had said, wondering what the point of dreams are.
- Lion's Roar, sitting upright, stares at Half Moon, eyes wide with surprise. Half Moon says she believes in her heart that the other place is waiting for the cats that are brave enough to make the journey, going on to say that Shaded Moss will lead them there, with her blessing. The old she-cat glances once more around her, eyes full of sadness and pain. Sliding down from the top of the boulder, Half Moon vanishes into a tunnel at the back of the cave, which leads to her own den. Shaded Moss, afterward, says that Half Moon believes that some of them must leave to find the place of her dream, and that he will go and do his best to keep them safe. Gray Wing thinks about how leaving would tear his heart in two if he had to leave because Half Moon had a dream.
- When the hunting party returns, some of the Tribe explain to them what Half Moon had told them. Shortly after, as Gray Wing debates on leaving, he thinks about how he cannot imagine abandoning the cats he had known all his life for a place that might only exist in Half Moon's dreams. A few sunrises later, Gray Wing notes that the pangs of hunger seem even sharper since Half Moon's announcement. Bright Stream asks Gray Wing what he thinks about Half Moon's dream, causing the tom to hesitate, and confess that he does not know. He wonders if Half Moon really has discovered a new place for them to live, without them knowing where it is, and ponders on why no other cats share the dream. Bright Stream suggests that it maybe is something only Half Moon can do. As they return, Gray Wing realizes that there is no sign of Half Moon.
- As Gray Wing walks through camp, it is noted that it was hard to accept Stoneteller's vision. When Turtle Tail returns to camp, she asks if they remembered how Stoneteller sent them on their way, and what she said. She adds that Stoneteller used to praise her for her speed and sharp eyes. As the cats argue for Gray Wing to be their leader, he reminds them that Stoneteller wasn't merely brave, but took care of each cat as if they were her kits, and he didn't have those skills.
- In a dream, Stoneteller stands at the back of the cave, inviting Gray Wing to come with her. She leads the way down a tunnel that leads out of the cavern, which leads to her den. He follows her, and sees the outline of her head before she steps aside. As Gray Wing notices the cavern, Stoneteller stands beside a puddle, and beckons Gray Wing with her tail. She welcomes him, and informs him that it was the Cave of Pointed Stones, where she reads their ancestors' signs. He inquires how he got there, and if she brought him there, which she responds in the negative. Stoneteller notes that she walks in dreams, her voice soft, and that she had a message for him. She says that he had a new life awaiting him, and that he would go on a new path. Gray Wing replies that he wondered about him, and Stoneteller dips her head, acknowledging his reasoning, but suggests that there would be another reason his dream led him there.
- Gray Wing protests that he wasn't their leader - Tall Shadow was - and is appalled by Stoneteller's comment. She replies that things could change in seasons to come, that he must be ready, and that he should walk his new life with courage. Her voice fades, leaving Gray Wing alone, before he awakens. After Bumble leaves, Gray Wing recalls the dream with Stoneteller, and that she implied that he would become leader. As Tall Shadow takes care of Moon Shadow, Gray Wing wonders if Stoneteller meant that he should take leadership despite his doubts. He then speaks to the other cats, noting that Stoneteller was right for them to leave the mountains. As Pebble Heart uses a herb, Gray Wing remembers that Stoneteller occasionally had visions, and wonders if Pebble Heart would grow up to be like him. Pebble Heart describes some dreams he had, and Gray Wing reminds him of Stoneteller, specifically that she had dreams like his. After Owl Eyes leaves camp, Gray Wing wishes for Stoneteller to guide him.
- Stoneteller greets Gray Wing in his dream, in the mountain cats' camp as he is watching peacefully over the daily life of the cats. When Gray Wing asks about his family, Stoneteller assures him that they're all fine. When Gray Wing ponders over the fact that he had failed his mother, Stoneteller seems to know this, as she offers him comfort. She tells Gray Wing that it isn't his fault, and that having little makes cats share, but having more makes cats greedy. Gray Wing wonders if she knew what he was thinking. Stoneteller tells him that she's lived long, and she warns him that greed is only the beginning, and that there will be war.
- Gray Wing asks her if it's with Clear Sky, and Stoneteller tells him to not be scared. She reminds him to remember the cats who loved, respected, and treasured him, noting that although Clear Sky and him are divided, they will have Jagged Peak. Stoneteller asks about Turtle Tail, and Gray Wing shows love as he talks about her adoringly. Stoneteller is happy, for he finally recognized the strength of her love at last. Stoneteller asks why Gray Wing had come here, and Gray Wing wonders if he was the one to choose this dream. Thinking about the journey to the forest, he tells Stoneteller that they brought death with them.
- Stoneteller counters him, saying that they brought change. Gray Wing sighs, and asks Stoneteller if all change is born in blood. Stoneteller tells them that they are all born in blood - and it marks a beginning, not the end. Gray Wing is puzzled – thinking that there is more blood to come. Stoneteller is engulfed by shadows, and Gray Wing yowls for her, not wanting to lose his friend. Stoneteller departs, telling Gray Wing she has faith in him - and she always will.
- Gray Wing sees Stoneteller during another of his dreams, pacing toward the tunnel that led to her den. He notices how unsteady her pawsteps are, and how scrawny and thin she is. He follows her after looking around at his former Tribemates, but she has vanished by the time he reaches the mouth of the tunnel. Upon reaching the end of the tunnel, he sees Stoneteller sitting at a pool of water with her back to him, gazing upwards, looking like she is sitting in a forest made of stone. She hears Gray Wing even though he has followed her as quietly as possible, and asks him why he is following her without turning around to look at him, her voice gentle. Gray Wing has no idea how to respond to her and she tells him that he is here because she invited him, and allowed him to follow her.
- He asks her if she can do that even though he lives so far away now, and Stoneteller finally looks at him for the first time during the dream, saying that a part of his heart will always belong to the mountains. He starts to say something but Stoneteller cuts him off, telling him to be quiet, her whiskers angled towards a spider spinning her web with flies caught in the net. Gray Wing twitches his whiskers in amusement at the thought that the spider will be very fat soon, before Stoneteller suddenly leaps up and rakes her claws through the spider's web and shreds it to pieces. Startled, Gray Wing asks her why she did that and Stoneteller returns his stare, questioning what the spider will do now that her home is destroyed. Gray Wing thinks that it is a really dumb question but replies that the spider saved herself. Agreeing, Stoneteller inquires what the spider will do now and Gray Wing responds that she will build a new web. The old she-cat meows that wisdom and long life come from being flexible and that one day he will need to be just as flexible too, and he will have to be strong for himself and strong for the other cats, because his already hard life is about to become harder.
- The tom is distressed, and demands to know if she can be more specific. Stoneteller's voice softens and she dips her head in sympathy, replying that she can only give him guidance as his future is not hers to decide, and he must be stronger than ever before. She glances over his shoulder and the tom turns his head around to follow her gaze seeing his mother Quiet Rain is sleeping in her hollow. Stoneteller tells him to make his mother proud, to remember who is his and where he came from, and that she is telling him these things because she knows he is strong enough to listen. She finishes with saying a great destiny awaits him and his friends, but it will not wait forever.
- Sometime after, Sun Shadow's punishment from Sharp Hail for wandering outside of the cave is to look after Stoneteller. He says this would normally be considered an honor, but Stoneteller is sick with a strange vomiting sickness. Stoneteller convinces Sun Shadow to leave the cave, and to follow the cats who left. After that, she dies. Sun Shadow takes her advice and leaves, with Quiet Rain as a tag-along.
- Gray Wing constantly thinks of Stoneteller, wondering what the she-cat would think of her former Tribemates. He finds himself asking himself what his old healer would think about the territory they live in, the battles they've had, and the lives they've lost during those battles. He thinks that Stoneteller would be proud of their new home, and even the many new kits that they've started to raise since leaving the mountains.
- Stoneteller appears to Gray Wing in a dream, and Gray Wing tries his best to apologize to her for everything that's happened, blaming himself for the empty cave he sees in his dreams. Stoneteller blocks him with her paw, telling him that he has nothing to apologize for, and that he cannot control the fate of every cat he knows and loves, and that he does not have that kind of power. When asked why Stoneteller brought Gray Wing to the cave, she mews that all will become clear soon. She tells Gray Wing that he needs to let go of the past, and think about changing the future, as that is the only thing he has the power to change.
- After Sun Shadow and Quiet Rain arrive, Thunder and the other cats ask why they chose to stay in the caves. Sun Shadow calmly replies that Stoneteller is the one who found the cave they live in. When Thunder asks who Stoneteller is, Quiet Rain says that she is more than a leader. She says that Stoneteller is an ancient cat, and speaks with those ancients who have gone before, and that she will tell the mountain cats what is and what will come to pass.
- As Gray Wing lays dying, he is surrounded by the spirits of cats that he once knew and loved. Among them is Stoneteller, whose eyes are warm and welcoming as Gray Wing's final moments are approaching. Her and Gray Wing's gazes meet, and the tom continues to look around and see many other cats alongside his former group leader.
In the Power of Three arc
- Half Moon is a softpaw, and a member of the Ancients. She is the equivalent of a Clan apprentice or a Tribe To-be.
- When Jaypaw visits the Ancients as Jay's Wing, another Softpaw, Fish Leap, starts to question Jaypaw about what had happened in the tunnels. Half Moon tells him not to pester Jaypaw, and that he must have been worn out already without questions tiring him. Fish Leap retorts angrily, saying that she wants to know about the tunnels as much as he does. Half Moon replies that she can wait until after Jaypaw eats. While Jaypaw begins to eat, Half Moon stands up for Jaypaw when Fish Leap tries to question him again.
- Half Moon, Fish Leap, and Dove's Wing all become sorrowful when Fallen Leaves is mentioned, and Half Moon tells the other softpaws that there must be a different place for them to live, full of prey and shelter.
- The next day, Half Moon finds Jaypaw exploring the stone hollow, the place ThunderClan would eventually make their camp. She becomes frantic, telling him that badgers lived there and that they would attack him. She leads him to safe territory. Here, she admits that she had been following his scent, thinking that he might be in trouble.
- Half Moon had caught a blackbird for him, for which he was grateful. Jaypaw offers to share, and she replies that she already ate, but takes a mouthful. As she cleans her face and whiskers after eating, she tells Jaypaw about how hard it rained last moon, and how Whispering Breeze had to catch prey for all the cats because she was the only one who didn't mind getting her fur wet. Half Moon purrs over the fish Whispering Breeze caught. Jaypaw asks if prey is running low, and she sadly shakes her head, commenting that Stone Song had been right when he said they needed to leave. Jaypaw agrees with her.
- After they eat, leaving the blackbird not totally finished, Half Moon suggests that they take it to Owl Feather, a queen nursing her kits. Jaypaw agrees, and he and Half Moon start towards the nursery.
- On the way, Half Moon points to the mountains, the direction that Stone Song thinks they should journey towards. She asks him what he thought it would be like to travel that far, and he tells her how hard it would be. He then starts to explain everything about the mountains to her: the sharp hills, the eagles, and the waterfall, saying he had a dream of it. When Half Moon says she would go to the mountains with Jaypaw, he realizes that she is in love with him.
- Half Moon and Jaypaw bring their prey to Owl Feather, who urges her kits to try some. Half Moon tells Owl Feather all about what Jaypaw said about the mountains, and asks if Owl Feather would go too. Owl Feather says that she would. Half Moon is surprised, and asks her about Jagged Lightning, Owl Feather's mate. When Owl Feather only says that she would bring her kits with her, Half Moon seems to be embarrassed.
- When Furled Bracken calls a meeting together, all of the cats begin discussing whether or not they should leave. Half Moon points out to Jaypaw that Owl Feather wouldn't like Jagged Lightning's opinion about staying rather than leaving.
- After all the cats begin casting their stones, voting whether or not to leave, the vote is about equal. Half Moon casts her stone to leave, gazing straight at Jaypaw as she does it. Jaypaw casts the final stone after her to leave. Before leaving, Half Moon asks Jaypaw one last time if the mountains are really there, and he promises her that they are. She says she believes him.
- During Jaypaw's medicine cat ceremony, he scents Half Moon beside him, as if watching the ceremony, although she does not formally appear.
In the Omen of the Stars arc
- When Jayfeather goes back in time to help the Ancients again, she is overjoyed to see him, and asks why he had never said goodbye.
- Jayfeather teaches the soon-to-be Tribe cats how to hunt in pairs. There, Jayfeather risks being carried away by an eagle to show the Ancients how to hunt with cave-guards and prey-hunters.
- Half Moon admires how brave he was and tells him if they had kits, they would be courageous, too, hinting she wanted to have kits with him. Jayfeather is embarrassed, but realizes he does feel some affection toward her.
- The next night, Jayfeather and Half Moon are in the Cave of Pointed Stones. Jayfeather tells Half Moon that she must become the first Stoneteller, because she saw the sign of the moon. She is outraged that he came all the way to tell her that. Jayfeather tries to convince Half Moon that he does love her, but being the Healer is her destiny. As they argue, Shy Fawn calls out that she is having her kits.
- Together, Half Moon and Jayfeather deliver the kits. After this, Jayfeather tells Half Moon that he must leave. This time, she is more understanding with him but still distraught over it.
- Half Moon tells Jayfeather that he has done well in choosing the new Stoneteller. She then tells him she will never forget him. He in turn tells her he will never forget her, either, then hurries to catch up with the patrol back to the forest. From the ridge where they stood, she says that she'll wait for him forever, signaling her everlasting love for him.
- She does not formally appear, but mentioned many times by Jayfeather. He remembers his time with Half Moon and the Ancients and misses her very much.
- Jayfeather admits to himself that he did love Half Moon and would give anything to have her by his side again.
- She and Slant meet with Owl Feather, Broken Shadow, Spottedleaf and Bluestar. She says that they have come, just like they were asked to, and settles down against the ice-cold wind. Broken Shadow greets her, remarking that it was good to see her again. She is very welcoming to the two StarClan cats who settle down beside the four Ancients. Half Moon, when the coming battle is discussed, says that they have done everything they possibly could. Her gaze flicks to the two creatures clambering over to the rocks toward them, thinking out loud if it was Midnight. She waits and listens to Midnight's speech. When Midnight says that she fears that she and Rock see a final sunset that ends their story, Half Moon steps forward, asking if they were four that could surely save the cats. When Slant asks if the Clan fight alone in the battle, Half Moon flattens her ears, yowling that they were never alone. Lifting her chin, she declares that she will fight alongside Jayfeather in the Dark Forest Battle.
- In a dream when Lionblaze, Dovewing, and Jayfeather are getting scolded by Rock for ignoring their destinies, Half Moon pleads with Jayfeather to help them.
- During the battle between the Dark Forest, she and all the Ancients, along with Midnight, come to help. She reunites with Jayfeather and greets him affectionately but informs him she must fight with the Clans, which Jayfeather allows.
In the Super Editions
- As Moth Flight dreams, she is welcomed by Stoneteller, who now goes by her Ancient name, Half Moon. The white she-cat is very excited to see that Moth Flight has finally made her way to the Moonstone, and reveals that they were unsure if Moth Flight would follow the moth they had sent for her. Half Moon tells Moth Flight that she and the other spirit cats are like stars, and they light a cat's way in the darkness. Half Moon says that she knows what is in each cat's heart and what they dream about, but Moth Flight objects, saying that Half Moon was in her dream about the blue-gray she-cat, but never came to speak with her.
- Half Moon tells Moth Flight that some dreams need to be experienced alone, and while they weren't sure that Moth Flight would follow her dreams at first, they are now sure that she is the one they need. Half Moon praises Moth Flight, telling her that she is special, and that the spirit cats want her to continue being as she is, even if that means she can't hunt and fight as well as her Clanmates. Half Moon mews that Moth Flight's curiosity, dreams, and openness to everything around her is what makes her extremely special, and her strengths are something that no other Clan cat has. The spirit cat points out that Moth Flight's connection with the cave, the stone, and the spirit cats themselves is strong, and that the Clans need care, but that can only come from within a cat's heart. Half Moon reveals that she and the others have chosen Moth Flight to be the very first medicine cat for the Clans.
- Soon, other spirit cats join Half Moon, including Rainswept Flower, Moon Shadow, and Bright Stream. Half Moon invites Bright Stream forward, and glances at the empty stone in front of her. She tells Moth Flight to watch the stone, and soon, a vision of Dappled Pelt appears in front of them. Half Moon tells Bright Stream to share her blessing with Dappled Pelt, and the process repeats itself for each of the Clan cats. Cloud Spots is chosen from ThunderClan, and his blessing is given by Jackdaw's Cry. Pebble Heart is chosen from ShadowClan, with none other than Turtle Tail to give him his gift. Moth Flight's friend, Micah, is chosen for SkyClan, and Petal is chosen by Half Moon to whisper to the yellow tom. Half Moon tells Moth Flight that she is the one that needs to deliver a message to these sleeping cats, that they are to become the very first medicine cats, and to reveal what the spirit cats have shown them.
- Half Moon tells Moth Flight that the moonlight that shows in the cave will be gone soon, and that it is up to Moth Flight to follow her destiny, whether she likes it or not. The destiny of every Clan depends upon Moth Flight, and Half Moon stresses the urgency of the will of the spirit cats. Half Moon reassures Moth Flight, saying that the path will be hard, but there will come a time in the future where each Clan cat will respect and listen to Moth Flight, but she has to earn it from each of her Clanmates. She tells Moth Flight that she and the others will send a sign once Moth Flight tells each of the Clans' respective cats, and that the young she-cat will be the one in which they speak through, and that they believe in Moth Flight.
- After Moth Flight tells each medicine cat of their new role, they make their way to Highstones. Half Moon and the others are waiting there, and they greet each of the cats warmly. Half Moon gives the call for the cats to gather, so they can share news. Half Moon tells Moth Flight that she did well, and the younger she-cat says that she told each of the Clans, like she was asked, and thanks the spirit cats for sending the lightning to prove what Moth Flight said was true. While she wasn't expecting them to split the sky in that sense, Half Moon purrs and says that Moth Flight will eventually get better at understanding the will of the spirit cats. Moth Flight is still unsure of what Half Moon meant when she said stars would rise, and she asks Half Moon what she means. Narrowing her gaze, Half Moon says that Moth Flight will know when it happens, and that her life must be traveled on her own. She goes on to say that if the spirits guided a cat's every pawstep, then they wouldn't discover their own fate, only the fate of the deceased. She then turns to Micah, and thanks him for leaving his home to join the Clans.
- Micah is hesitant at first, saying he only joined SkyClan. Half Moon says the spirit cats are just another Clan, and Moth Flight realizes that they are StarClan, and Half Moon's green eyes glitter as she accepts the name Moth Flight has given the spirit cats, and she is not alone. The whole of StarClan happily accept the name, and Half Moon tells Micah that he brings a fresh spirit to the Clans. While Moth Flight is annoyed that Clear Sky doesn't trust Micah, Half Moon reassures them that soon, Clear Sky will see Micah's worth, and that he is only doing what he believes is best for his Clan. Half Moon tells each of the medicine cats that they should share their knowledge with one another, and soon, Half Moon and the other StarClan cats vanish. Pebble Heart later says that while Half Moon was a healer in the mountains, there is an opportunity for each Clan cat to become better than Half Moon was.
- After Micah's death, Moth Flight stays with ShadowClan, and doesn't go with the medicine cats to their meeting with StarClan. Pebble Heart, who did go, tells Moth Flight that they met Half Moon, who came alone. While the ancient cat did not have very much to tell them, she advised the medicine cats to look after Moth Flight, who is still distraught and upset over the death of her mate.
- Moth Flight, under the guidance of StarClan, takes her mother, Wind Runner, to meet with them. Wind Runner is astonished to finally meet Half Moon, asking if she was the Stoneteller that she'd heard about. Half Moon is one of the many cats to give Wind Runner a new life, and she advises Wind Runner to always carry StarClan in her heart. While Moth Flight initially thinks that Half Moon has killed Wind Runner, the StarClan cat tells Moth Flight to have faith, and she tells Wind Runner that she is the first of the stars that will rise, and tells Wind Runner that she and the other StarClan cats have given her a gift of nine lives. She greets Wind Runner and tells her that she will be known as Windstar, and the whole of StarClan join in to greet the newly named leader.
- When Moth Flight and the others meet after each of the leaders have been given their lives, Half Moon is the first to greet Moth Flight. The white she-cat stares at Moth Flight, telling her that she made the right choice by also giving up her kits to each of the different Clans in the forest. Half Moon continues, saying that a medicine cat's loyalty must be to StarClan and their Clanmates, and decides that the only way for this to be possible is to ban medicine cats from having kits. She tells the medicine cats that they must make a choice, including Pebble Heart and Cloud Spots, as they can be fathers, and a father does not love his kits any less than a mother does. Both toms agree, as do Dappled Pelt, Acorn Fur, and Moth Flight. Half Moon and the rest of StarClan decree that a medicine cat may never take a mate or have kits, saying that every medicine cat must be loyal to their Clan and StarClan above all else.
In the Field Guides
- She appears on Jayfeather’s page. When Jayfeather went back in time and became Jay’s Wing, he fell in love with Half Moon. When Jayfeather knew he was about to go back to his time, he made Half Moon the Teller of the Pointed Stones for the mountain cats, giving the seeds of faith in something more than what the cats could see around them, something that would be passed down for generations to come.
- Half Moon introduces The Early Settlers section, explaining how wild cats ruled the territory where the Clans would form and how the early mountains cats came to settle. She also explains how cats moved from the lake to the mountains moons before. She explains the state of the Tribe's survival during her time as healer and her vision to send cats away that will soon become part of the Clans. She explains how the cats slowly formed into the Clans known to this day.
- Half Moon has her own page. She was a white cat with green eyes and the daughter of Rising Moon and Chasing Clouds who all lived beside the lake with the ancient cats. She was one of the first to suggest moving away and when they cast their votes, she voted to leave. She loved Jayfeather who at that time, is known as Jay's Wing, and was heartbroken when he didn't come to the mountains. When the ancient cats reached the mountains, Half Moon demonstrated her courage in learning new skills and when she explored the Cave of Pointed Stones, she read the signs in the water and moonlight. She was delighted to see Jayfeather again but was devastated she was told to become a Stoneteller instead of having kits with Jayfeather. She finally accepted and took on the role. As an old cat, she received a vision to send cats to follow the sun trail to a new home. She loved and trusted Jayfeather and followed his advice all her life. When Jayfeather left the mountains for the final time, Half Moon called to him, promising to wait for him forever.
- She is mentioned on Gray Wing's page. When Stoneteller told her Tribemates about a dream of a different place to live, Gray Wing was clear he didn't want to go.
