Hazelfrond is a ThunderClan warrior, and she joins StormClan when her leader Stripestar decides to merge his Clan with WindClan. When StormClan flees from the old ThunderClan camp from a fire and Galestar gives birth to three stillborn kits, Hazelfrond whispers to her mate that the deaths are a sign from StarClan. Pebblenose scolds Hazelfrond for being so insensitive, though Galestar dismisses her warriors, privately worried that Hazelfrond might be right. Later, Hazelfrond and Fernwhisper attempt to rebuild the old dens, but the charred wood is too brittle to hold. Hazelfrond joins StormClan in their journey to find a new home beyond the forest.

After Rosebush falls to his death in the mountains, Hazelfrond and Nettlesting catch Whitestep before she falls after her mate. In the apple forest, Hazelfrond and Mudsplash spot Twolegs in the distance by climbing the trees. While Stripestar is keen to scavenge food from the Twolegs, Hazelfrond is less interested as only kittypets take food from Twolegs. Later, Hazelfrond and Icefoot support Harewhisker as they climb up the fox-headed mountain. Two moons later, Hazelfrond and her Clanmates convince Stripestar and Galestar that they should return to the forest due to the lack of prey and water. At the sun-drown-place, Hazelfrond's tail is nearly torn off by a gull. When StormClan flees the sun-drown-place during the storm, Hazelfrond is terrified when Galestar and her kits go missing. During their journey back to the forest, Hazelfrond and Nettlesting report that the abandoned Twoleg nest is clear from Twolegs.
