Chapter description[]

Tawnypelt awakens in SkyClan's medicine den, battered and sore after falling into a Twoleg pit near the construction site. She remembers dying from the fall and briefly visiting StarClan, where she had reunited with her mate, Rowanclaw, and their lost kits. There, Bluestar had given her a chilling prophecy: Beware the two-faced cat with a paw in each world. She had been sent back to the living world to warn the Clans of an approaching darkness. Still weak and under the effects of poppy seeds, Tawnypelt struggles to speak clearly. When her son, Tigerstar, and grandson, Shadowsight, visit, she tries to share the prophecy but cannot get the words out. Shadowsight determines she is too injured to return to ShadowClan, and SkyClan agrees to care for her until she recovers.
Later, Birchfeather—Tigerstar's youngest son who left ShadowClan to join SkyClan—sits with her. Tawnypelt thanks him for saving her, but Birchfeather vents his frustration about not yet being made a full SkyClan warrior. He feels overlooked and disconnected, especially since his mate Ridgeglow insisted on staying in SkyClan rather than joining ShadowClan. Tawnypelt sympathizes but is troubled by his attitude, recalling how her mate Rowanstar once struggled with young warriors who felt neglected. As she drifts back to sleep, Rowanclaw visits her again in a vision. Tawnypelt confesses her fear that the Clans are in danger and that she may not deliver Bluestar's warning in time. Rowanclaw reassures her that Tigerstar cares deeply and will listen once she is well. He urges her to rest so she can fulfill her mission.
