Chapter description[]

Ivypool wakes from her nightmare, finding the rest of her companions already awake. The fox-head mountain looms before them, and as they go to fish, the group watches Twolegs and their kits playing in the water. They decide it is too risky to hunt in the lake, but as they go to flee, one of the Twoleg kits grabs Whistlepaw. Rootspring suggests rushing the Twolegs, though Ivypool expresses concern over the five of them being taken and separated before conceding to the group. Before they can attack, the Twoleg kit runs away with Whistlepaw, locking her in a monster.
The cats approach the monster, and Rootspring attempts to pry open the door where a small gap exists. Icewing and Dovewing look around it, and determine that there is no way in. Icewing suggests waiting for the Twolegs to return and release Whistlepaw, but Rootspring points out they might not see the young she-cat in time. Ivypool suggests attempting to convince the Twoleg to open the door by luring it to the monster, and the group develops a plan.
Ivypool sneaks up on the Twoleg and steals its food, racing back to the monster and enticing the Twoleg into chasing her. Frustrated, he opens the door to the monster and goes to climb inside, creating a gap large enough for Whistlepaw to escape through. The cats flee, and Ivypool looks back to see the Twoleg watching them with confusion. Whistlepaw thanks Ivypool for the plan, and the cats agree that they need to continue on, as the world outside of Clan borders is dangerous. Rootspring mentions that they have not seen any gulls, worried that the message from StarClan had been wrong, until one flies overhead.
